I Quit My 'Dream Job' for My Actual Dreams

I chose my career out of fear and necessity first and out of love second, and I couldn't settle. I thought I'd always wonder if there's an actual dream job out there, that fits me like a glove, and not just the one that sits right by all societal standards. Well, I'm about to find out, I quit my dream job to find out what my actual dreams are and there's no going back.

And no, I don't dream of labor, I dream of existing happily for as long as I have, being a good, supportive human, and creating value for others along the way.

It takes so much courage to break free of the standards and norms that our modern world dictates. To go out there and chase your dream and overcome your worries - that is what all people that feel traped in their day-to-day- and office-life need to hear!

Well done for taking a leap of faith. I actually quit my IT job for the same reasons as you. I finish up this Friday. I'm taking a 6 month sabbatical and my goal is to find my passion again while staying open to new possibilities. Some days I feel excited about it and somedays I feel scared and question if I'm doing the right thing or not. Jim Carrey had a good quote - "You can always fail at what you don't love, so you may as well take a chance at doing something that you love". Good luck on your journey :)

I totally agree. Go for it. If you don’t at least try.... you’ll never live it down

This was a great story! Also I love that quote “better to have tried & failed than to not have tried at all” I am in my last year of school. I believe that I can be a full time Youtuber but I have to pay my bills so I’m going to have to stay in my profession until I make enough money on YouTube!

❤❤ Wonderful for you! I've been taking time off for over a year. (And several months a couple times during the Pandemic.) I've been lucky in that I was sent money due to the Pandemic, school Pandemic money, and tax returns. I've been selling items such as clothing to help with expenses and general decluttering as well. I did it all to help me mentally. I wasn't okay before the Pandemic 😢 I'm still needing better medications, but it's what I needed that counts! Very grateful. I'll start working again soon and figuring out what I could do remotely :)

So what you are saying, there is a job opening for us technical types?
Just kidding :D, very brave decision and good luck!

My situation:- too old to have the energy and ability of a younger person, too young to as a fifty something worker.
I can't even scale my workdays back a little, due to still having a mortgage I've been paying off since my early 30's. I've never been unemployed, been answerable to a boss since the mid 80's. Just a slave to the system. When my mortgage is cleared, I'm going to also sell my car, and gear down a little. My need for more spare time takes precedence over any desire for more material items that cost money.
When you begin to see time running out for yourself, you begin to crave more spare time. I could be gone in twenty years, and want to have more time for family and self.
I'd also love my job far more if it's three, rather than five days per week.
I'm getting old, and getting tired.
From the time you begin school until the day you accept your final wage, you always have to be somewhere, for someone else, Monday to Friday, for a period of about 60 or 65 years. You don't want to go to your grave, knowing only this arduous, insipid existence. Surely, we can expect more from life!🤔😕
