Ive actually noticed that on days where i run before working out, i have a huge boost in strength and energy about 30 mins after running

I started increasing my distance runs by doing slow long runs. I’m able to hit 4-6 miles at a moderate pace of 8-9:30 per mile. I have a boxer/rugby player build and running is something I LOVE. Especially me going into the military VERY soon, I am bumping up my sprints and runs, with the goal to hit a sub 14 2 mile by then of training, a sub 40 5 mile by next year, 10 miles at a sub 10 min per mile pace in a year or 2, and then finally, by God’s grace, do a 20-30 mile marathon WHILE maintaining a muscular build like you man!

I have definitely increased my muscle mass since taking up long distance running and sprinting. The entire extent of my strength training is mostly body weight and kettlebell training with a focus on muscle retention, rather than growth.

I absolutely agree with this. I've seen the difference. Ditto to thos who say you shouldn't do cardio.

To clarify.. he’s not saying that solely running, or lots of running has this effect.

Simply that an effective plan includes running for max gains

Ever heard about concurrent training? Adaptation processes of endurance training limit hypertrophy if you time it wrong!

Me and my son are starting with a mile /1600 metres

And want to slowly drop the distance down to 100metres sprints while at the same time increasing our intensity

What’s the best way to do that ?

I just thought amongst distance at slower speed works be a good place to start to get used to running and not get injured

We did try sprinting straight away previously but I think one time I hurt my hip flexor or something . It feels like like we need a little bit of conditioning over 3 -6 months to get ready for more intense sprints

We are both tall and heavy too, over 6 feet and 240-260 pounds . I’m 44, son is 16

We want to run 2 to 3 times a week.

We also loft weights 2 to 3 times a week

I know mitochondrial density seems like a big word, but you don’t generate ATP fast enough during 10 rep sets for that to matter. The reason running builds that is because it is important for endurance and slow oxidative muscle. This is illogical and just click bait by big words

Not true at all. If your goal is max strength and muscle limit your cardio. There’s a reason marathon runners look like they do.
