How Running Can Help Heal Grief

"The lyrics crashed through me as I pumped my arms and legs," Shelby Forsythia remembers. "I saw myself as an innocent, unsuspecting being in a violent, screeching construction site. My demolition was inevitable, and all I could do was run. Not to escape the certainty of my mother's death, but to feel like I was doing something — anything — with the pain of it."

After a short period in hospice care, Shelby's mom died in December of 2013 — and the combination of movement and melody helped her process the loss. "At a time when everything felt so big and so inescapable, running and listening made me feel like I had an outlet to channel it all into," she says.

Yes! I do a guided meditation while running and it really helps with stress and giving yourself a brain break from the thoughts about your day and be present

I so so agree with this, I lost my BIL(father figure) continents away from me. I'm not a runner but a month later while I was taking an evening walk, I began to run, tears flooded and rolled down, flying while I ran, felt soo much better letting it out.
