Installing Windows 2000 on Modern Hardware

A few months ago, we attempted to install Windows ME on modern hardware but had no success. Can we get Windows 2000, a NT based operating system, to work on modern hardware?

Surprisingly, HP Business desktops have driver compatibles starting from Windows 2000 all the way up to windows 8.1. So I installed Windows 2000 on an HP computer from 2010 with all drivers compatible and it's blazing fast! It has an SSD and 4GB of RAM and it loads modern web pages. I love it!

I have a PC which is compatible with Windows 10 32-bit (yknow, 64 bits of Windows 10 too much for a Pentium D) and it officially supports Windows 2000. It took me 10 hours to install, but it does work perfectly.

Oddly enough, the Pop Culture wiki does not have any articles on Windows 2000 but it does have a pretty large article on Windows 9x.

The most compatible old Windows with modern hardware is Vista, Windows 10 still have the same kernel, you can use even Windows 10 drivers on it.

I installed windows 2000 alongside macOS on a 13 inch mid 2007 white MacBook. despite intel Macs only ever officially supporting xp sp2 and newer there was actually drivers that worked.

Does Windows 2000 boot of a usb like 98 does? I Need a portable USB with a fully installed Windows 2000 on it but I only get the same bluescreen like you.

I actually managed to get Internet on a machine I installed 2000 on. It was an ancient Linksys Wi-Fi adapter that used a Realtek chipset. Unfortunately I did not have sound but IIRC I used a modified NVIDIA driver for a GTX 960 and I got full color graphics.

How do you get an os formatting on a cd with rufus? Does it only format on write-only cd's? Or can it be burned on cd-rw cd's?

Also, is it possible to just boot the operating system on a laptop with no hard drive like a linux on the go? But with a cd? I have a ibm laptop with a dead harddrive. I wanna give it a try.

i used a cd to try and install it but when i go to the f5 menu and press standard pc i get an inaccessible_boot_device bsod
the other options dont work either

When windows 2000 first came out, it literally took at least 46 minutes to install it on a hard disc

So, I got the BSoD on the USB and I got some error called "couldn't open the boot partition to check for a signature" on a cd-r.
any clues, chief?

My laptop doesn't recognize my windows 2000 CD but my external drive yes but i can't past setup is starting screen because the external drive works as a USB drive...

Can you please send me the Windows 2000 ISO you used in this video because I have a very old PC from around 2003 and I wanted to revive that PC and use it again for a few hours but it says the windows installation is corrupted and I don't have the Win 2K CD anymore so can you please send me that ISO of Win 2000?

I built my own modern computer with 3 monitors and at the present time I have Windows 2000 Pro 32 bit, Windows XP Pro 64 bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit on the one computer. I use a mechanical switcher in a CD-ROM front drive bay so my computer only sees 1 operating system at a time. That way I do not have to worry about the computer messing up one of my drives when more than one shows up in the bios. All the operating systems from Windows Vista to Windows 10 recognize 3 monitors using 1 graphics card. So does Ubuntu. Windows 2000 only displays 1 monitor and Windows XP on 2. I only started this project to see if I can. Most of the time I use Windows 7 because I'm used to it.

I do not understand why a modern system cannot be used. If it works in a VM program, then what is missing to make it work that VM gives it?
