Does Drinking Too Much Raise Tolerance? | Alcoholism

Alcoholism is disease, here’s some resources to help you fight back:

A frequent question is whether drinking too much will raise your tolerance to alcohol. It depends on what kinds of drinking you do.

When people drink too much every once in a while or another way of saying that is binge drinking, that won't necessarily change one's tolerance. What changes one's tolerance is drinking excessive amounts over a long period of time. So if you're drinking episodically, if every once in a while you over drink, no, your tolerance is going to remain largely the same. If other things remain the same, like your body weight, etc. However, over time if people drink excessively and frequently, yes, their tolerance will change, and they'll need more alcohol to get the same effect.

Having said that, also people's tolerance naturally changes with age and with the changes that go along with aging. So people have to really aware of their tolerance level all through their life span.

Dude, I’m 24yo. Started drinking at the age of 13/14 and since then I was already drinking quite a lot until high school. But it was in college, when I was around 17/18yo that I started drinking heavily and almost everyday, and it just got worst with time. I sometimes drank alone in my room, and until a certain point I could get drunk easily. A bottle of wine would do the trick. But when I was 20yo I started noticing that I wasn’t able to get drunk so easily. I would down 3 bottle of wine and I would feel nothing. Drunk 5 liters of beer and would feel nothing. To a point where I would just get a lot of pain in my stomach, like I had sulfuric acid burning me inside. Been drinking heavely until few months ago. Been 2 months sober now

Personally, i've become less tolerant. I started that i could drink like 30 cl of vodka having just a slight dizziness, while now i get the same effect with a couple of beers. I noticed i became less tolerant everytime i got indigestion and threw up: now, not only i get dizzy with two beers, i cannot even drink 40% alcohol anymore, it makes me feel sick

Crazy because 2019 4 beers would get me to my limit, now 2021 I drink a six pack and I walk around fine.

I drank too much at the beach and I black out drunk in the shower while it was running for 5 hours. After that night, I couldn’t drink a sip of alcohol without having the feeling to throw up

I drink alcohol occasionally especially in birthdays, however, my tolerance really betrayed me. It is so low, that I am dizzy in like after 7 shots. :>

There came a point where I was doing 1 shot of Tequila a day. After about 2 weeks it became harder to feel the buzz, or the buzz will recede quickly.

Out of pure boredom, during the start of covid I began drinking 40% alcohol while playing videos games at night. I drank 125-200 ml almost every night since then with some months long breaks here and there. Lately though I noticed that 400 ml spread out over 4 or 5 hours hardly does anything now, I've been going almost every night since Dec and I'm pretty sure I built up a tolerance. I do what I've termed "front loading" where I drink 250-300 ml over an hour-ish and spread the rest out until about 2-3 hours before I go to bed. During the day I feel no urge whatsoever to drink but when it gets to around 10 or 11 pm I feel the urge simply out of boredom and what's apparently become habit. I suppose I should nip this in the bud before it turns into a day addiction.

I feel like this video is very directed. At people who either are drinking, or have drank, a lot.

Isn’t binge drinking way worse for you than moderate drinking 2-3 times a week or am I way off?
