My gosh, the clean up and rebuilding is going to take years. Stay strong. Lots of help there and more on the way. I am concerned about the people still trapped in remote areas, but I also know rural folks and mountain folks are strong and resourceful.

Samaritans Purse has been on the ground here with supplies and generators for the homeless. Much better response from them than any other relief organization. Give to Samaritans Purse instead of Red Cross if you really want to help these people.

I got down past Gerton but not to Middle Fork. Utter ruin, landslide took one house out completely. Bridges out, landslides everywhere, road is washed out entirely in some places. Forget power, just getting basic roads and bridges back will take many months. Water is still bleeding into the roads. The whole road system probably has to be rebuilt. Every hollow, gully, creek has been washed out, sometimes exposing bedrock. Looks like a 3rd world country in there. They said Middle Fork is "gone", a lot of people live up in there.

The area was flooding before the massive water from the hurricane rolled in, 100 year flood. We experience nearly the same sinario back in 1996 when our rivers all overflowed the banks although we did not have a hurricane just what they call the pineapple express heavy rains on top of heavy winter mountain snow for a week straight. I hope the residents of the western NC get infrastructure back ASAP.
