My dog Buddy is a natural born guard dog. He loves meeting new people, but he is always cautious. He charges, sniffs, and heels when ordered. At first it wasn’t easy, and there were some nipping accidents. But he’s doing much better now, and he is smart enough now to understand the concept of friend and foe. He does freak out when the gardener shows up though or occasional city workers who come to fix up our home. My mom and I are both his alphas so he is learning to obey us. Buddy also does occasionally like to chase cats because of his strong pointer genetics, but he never hurts them. It’s more of a playful chasing behavior. Dogs are such awesome furry friends.

I never thought my golden would be a guard dog. Everyone he meets is his friend, they just don’t know it yet.
That was until some random guy was lurking around the front gate muttering to himself. Ramsey gave a growl and a bark and the guy took off. Was definitely impressed with my boy. Gonna start working on teaching my mom’s German shepherd puppy to guard to help keep her safe too.

I have a German Shepherd/blue heeler mix and I can’t even scratch my husband’s back without my dog being quietly vocal & trying to push my hand away. I gave my 15 year-old daughter a hug one day and my dog grabbed my ankle and yanked on my pants!
