Ippon is a very common throw used often in Judo and BJJ. In this video, we discuss and demonstrate 3 "old school" defenses vs Ippon-seoi-nage.

--Blocking the opponent's hip from connecting to your own body is a quick and simple defense. When the opponent retreats is a great opportunity for your counter throw. In Judo contest, blocking the hips can be seen as excessively defensive and will result in a penalty.
--Defensive Tani-otoshi is one of my favorite methods for countering Ippon-seoi-nage. In this variation, I follow-up by immediately transitioning to the mount.
--Te-guruma, along with several other leg grab throws, was banned in Judo competition by the IFJ in 2013. As BJJ has no such rule, Te-guruma is a great option for countering Ippon. In this variation, I maintain a grip on the opponent's leg in the landing. This allows me to choose either arm submission, leg submission, or pinning position for a follow-up attack.
