If Judo reincorporated leg grabs into the sport it would be hands down the best martial art for self defense. As is it’s up there as one of the best. It’s the most realistic. Sleeve grabs, collar ties, bear hugs, lifting and slamming, sweeps and trips. Both starting standing up. Honestly that right there with just a little bit of striking, just enough to not get 1 hit KO’d and you’d be golden for life!

Judo is so underrated. Bjj gained so much traction in the West because of the UFC promoting it. Any move successfully done in judo/wrestling on concrete will injure.

I'm an MMA fighter; practice Muay Thai, Capoeira, Judo and BJJ. In my opinion, Judo is the best martial art in the world, not because of its efficiency, but because of its values, principles and traditions, in this martial art men of honor are forged.

Judo+Jiu Jitsu+wrestling(+maybe muay thai) = trained killer

Big respect to judo and the effectiveness when combined with striking is just insane. Once you reach 2nd degree black belt and you know how to strike effectively no untrained peson will beat you.

Judo is a modern form of Jujutsu and is considered Jujutsu according to Kano himself. It’s the example of Jujutsu can be used in modern combat or sports.

Bruce Lee said that Judo was one of the best martial arts and also he wanted his son Brandon Lee's first martial art to be Judo

As someone who has been actively practicing judo since they were 15, this is scarily accurate. I will admit I never looked like much. I’m talking that scrawny kid with noodle arms. After about half a year of judo when I first started, I was able to do 40+ pushups and broke the current stamina record for my class. To be honest, I hadn’t even noticed how much I had improved. It’s insane, man.

BJJ is a standalone art that was developed from newaza Judo.

Judo is the best, it develops crazy strength.
True...
But Joe Rogan didn't mention some of the horrific injuries that Judo guys go through and the chances of injury/ horrific injury is the highest in Judo than in any other martial arts system.

I started taking Judo recently cause I didn’t have any wrestling clubs by where I live, and so far it’s been excellent. It hurts a lot especially the first few weeks as your learning how to break fall, but it’s a great experience overall.

At my gym, we started doing judo in our jitz class. Usually, it's the first 30 mins or so.

While i love the throws, i am actually injured as i type this. On Thursday evening class, i was thrown and landed directly on my tailbone. It caused extreme pain on landing, and i had to leave class 5 minutes later. We were practicing on the mats but not with the typical crash mats that are used. The impact was hard.

Now i did have a back injury 10 years ago, however ive been in jitz and been taken down many times and never had an issue before. My back is mostly recovered.

This throw was a standing throw where i was flipped over, so the fall was significantly harder. I now have a sharp pain in my left buttox that extends into my leg. Its going to take me out of training for a little bit and i won't be able to do much weight lifting for my legs and gluttes until ive recovered.

Im only 31, so im not an old brittle person. Im 6'0 225lbs with some fat but decently strong and athletic. I have to think long and hard if i want to continue with judo throws. I love the idea of them. Very practical for the real world. But i also don't want to live the rest of my life as a messed-up person.

I’ve done 7 years BJuiJitsu, I’m considering doing Judo because they don’t want to be taken to the ground, much more realistic

Remember when BJJ had throws and was more like Judo.
