Prevention is the most important thing we can do in helping to heal our neck problems. Contracting our trapezius muscles will aggravate our neck condition and inflame the nerves causing muscle spasm and pain.

I had the worst pain I've ever had because a herniated disc in my neck (C5 and C6). I was losing hope for life, and even being able to function in anyway. I was in so much pain that I would just cry all day, hoping for the night to come so I could knock myself out with enough Ambien. I am starting to feel better after over 3 weeks of this pain. I wanted to say what I did to help in the healing process, lots of prayer, prayer from people that I don't know. I also bought a neck traction that pulls your vertibrates apart. I used it for about 10 minutes two times now, and the pain has gone from a 10 to about a 4. I am in much better spirits because of it. My next suggestion would be to get a decompression table, or decompression machine to put you upside down with the help of someone so you can get things pulled apart so the disc can go back into place.

I was a gym rat and started to have serious spasms in my neck that led to a pinched nerve.  Who knew that working the Traps exacerbated this condition.  I thought by strengthening I was helping my body.  Not one specialist said to stop working out.  Makes sense now.   I will lay off the heavy lifting and work on healing.  Thanks for the info.

I know this video is 8 years old, but great tip thanks! 😊 It's been about 3 months, my neck has thankfully almost healed but still have some minor side of the neck shoulder and arm issues. Was going to bring out my hula hoops again as I thought it may help (by that I mean arm hooping) but will stick to just yoga for now until I have fully healed 🙂

Thank you. I've been seeing a chiropractor for a few months now and i have started back up with my walking and light weights that i grip with my hands. I've been doing the over head lifts and arms straight up out in front of me while walking on the treadmill. I now know i should bend my elbow and do as your video describes. Thanks for your time and information. It really helps.

First of all I love your channel very informative and helpful. Thank you for uploading and providing this information!
Second I had few questions regarding the type of work outs!
What about incline chest dumbells?
What about cable pull downs and cable pull backs for back?
And what about squats? Putting the bar on your traps/neck to do the squat?

Thank you Doctor, I have c5 c6 disc protrusion. I have problems with my wrists and my upper arms/shoulders are now really weak, tired and painful. I have had physio etc. I try to do the excercises/stretches etc. I didn't realise I shouldn't be raising my arms. Makes perfect sense now why I'm not getting any better...I also do Zumba classes which involves a lot of arm raising!!! Thanks again. I have had more help from you than anyone. I really appreciate your videos.

Try a neck traction device, this changed my life!! Seriously I was in so much pain, and after using one, I had most of the pain leave. I use it everyday at home, just put it on the door, and correctly put it on my chin and it pulls my spine apart correctly.

I’m 39, recently I found that I have cervical DDD problem c5 and c6 narrowed and that’s causing pain in my neck area no other areas affected so far. I’m a gym addict, been lifting weight for almost 2 decades and my question is, can I still lift weight with DDD decease?

GOD BLESS YOU!

Dr Mandell
Greetings !!
I am facing neck pain from last 2 months, slowly I am feeling pressure on my eyes and now I am facing tingling and pain in my left arm and shoulder.
By doing the excersices mentioned by you in other videos, I am feeling better. But I have following queries:
1. Does eye pressure and pressure on one side of face is due to this neck pain . I sometimes feels blockage in my left nostril too ?
2. I go to gym regularly, but after watching this video, I will break my shoulder related excersices until I recover again. Please suggest me specific excersices, please post me links of video, which I should follow strictly.

Sir, To be more elaborative, I am facing lower back pain too from last one year. More than lower back, Its more left knee pain and tingling in left leg.
With excersices of lower back and siatica I feel better but not complete releif. If I give break to my excersices, my situation again reach to previous stage. Please help and suggest .
I dont feel serious pain, but I want to get rid of these problems, I am just 27 .
