I woke up with terrible pain and an immobile head last year. I went to work anyway thinking the movement would work things out, but didn't. I went to a massage therapist and that was the most painful massage I have ever had. Tears were rolling down my cheeks, but after an hour and ten minutes the pain was suddenly gone. Relief from that pain was worth the torture. I am a fit, flexible, mobile, strong person and have never had that before or since and hope to never experience it again. Thank you for these alternatives to massage if it does show up again. I also learned not to ignore neck pain!

OMG! Years ago my doctor told me to stretch my neck on both sides as hard as I can go, instead of slow and steady or trying to balance the relief. Im glad I found this video. Thanks

Oh! Also I found that your advice to fire the muscles helps WAY more than stretching. I am pretty flexible, so stretching doesn't do much. Gently firing the neck muscles helps a LOT! THANK YOU for that!

I rarely leave YouTube comments but just wanted to go on record saying your video help me tremendously! Being in an uncomfortable hospital bed and then a week of poor posture while feeding my newborn led to some pretty severe neck pain. I could not move to the left at all and the muscles were spasming very painfully at random times. Ride your stretching exercises, very gently and slowly, plus that really cool and at the end that challenges the muscles themselves. After one day I saw 50% improvement, the next day was even better! My range of motion will be close to 100% very soon and I'm so glad to have these exercises to rely on should it happen again. Thank you, sir, well done!!

Your thumbnails are the best. LOL
I had a rotated vertebrae in my neck that had me in serious pain and drastically decreased mobility. It was so bad. I went to a chiropractor and his neck adjustment gave me a nosebleed. I have yet to find a person on earth who can explain why I had nosebleeds after the neck adjustment. That aside, I am sure my neck issue came from a combination of holding the phone between my ear and shoulder (it was a landline, so not a cell phone) as well as looking up for too long at once. MY child was at the top of the Chick-Fil-A jungle gym and I was trying to talk her down. I finally went up to get her. After that I had severe neck pain. Hence, the chiropractor.

Have experienced this several times, mostly due to tight SCM and upper trapezius muscles and it has been a nightmare...I'm literally super afraid of these incidents. Your ATM theory has been helping me a lot...and now I have hope that I could correct it myself without being dependent on a PT or chiropractor or neurologist, etc etc
Thanks a ton

As always your guidance is spot on. I have been dealing with a very tight and painful neck, shoulder blades for several years. I have been working with a PT once a month. After my session he gives me one new exercise to work on and I have made significant progress in 6 months. My pain has decreased exponentially! My range of motion is a work in progress but much improved. One exercise he gave me was holding on to my clavicle and pulling down with my hands on the skin and looking up. The holding onto the chin and moving head to the side that you recommend seems to work on that same area and did help me move my neck better side to side. So now I have a new exercise to add to my arsenal. I must add that it seems imperative in this area (from my own experience ) that slow and steady wins the race! Thanks!

I'm definitely going to try these methods. I've had stiffness in my neck for decades; I remember noticing it even as a teenager. I'm signed up for your Upright Health kyphosis exercises, but I just can't seem to get past the basic introductory stage, and if I miss even these for a few days, I'm starting from square one again.

Thanks man this worked, I was looking right and was feeling a shooting pain on the right side of the neck, my shoulders didn't rise but the muscles between my neck and right shoulder were really stiff, massaging and lightly stretching really helped

I've been rear-ended 5 times over the course of 20 years. So I have extensive whiplash damage that I never sought treatment for. I have chronic neck and shoulder pain as a result and frequently wake in the morning with limited range of motion. Acupuncture and heat has helped a lot but I'm going to give these exercises a try.
I've gone to physical therapy for other injuries and never had a good experience. They always just give me a stack of generic exercises that I follow to the letter but never see improvement. When I tell the PT this they just add more exercises. Wish I could find a PT like you!!

One day when I was around 14 (I'm 55 now) I woke up and found I couldn't turn my head to one side. I figured I must have slept in a bad position or something and got a crick in it. I still did my some of my normal activities such as bike riding. It lasted the whole day. When I woke up the next day it was gone.
