Roger Neilson manipulated the NHL rulebook so much that he landed in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He changed the sport, not just through these three rule changes, but also by instituting offseason training as well as the idea of studying video to plan for opponents. Who’d have guessed that’d help?

Roger Neilson was a brilliant coach and thinker. He was actually one of the first people to use film as a way to break down players and evaluate performance. Before, word of mouth and written blurbs ran the show. Very interesting stuff if you look it up. One of the founding fathers of scouting in sports.

In junior he used to have his defenseman play goal on penalty shots. They would just rush the player, make them lose possession and end the threat. Dude was kind of a genius.
