Fine dining is an art form. It is meant to be appreciated.(as all art should)
From the performance of the wait staff and sommelier to the magic in the kitchen.
I'm far from a big shot, nor do I portray one. But I try to visit to my favorite fine dining resturant annually for special occasions or achievements. It feels good when they remember me and have the reservation in my callendar before we hang up. The establishment treat their staff very well. They have worked there longer than I knew the place existed. Their attention to detail is unmatched. I always let them know how much I appreciate them.
One of my fondest memories was when they let me get a bottle off the menu with the vintage being my birth year. They reserved the empty table next to mine for the bottle and decanter. Much love to those guys.

Aa a Chef\GM I can almost always make a party of 2 happen, its the parties of 10+ that show up without a reservation that I always have problems with. Say please and thank you, dont sexualy assault the staff(this means you too ladies), and tip 20% or better. F*@$ i need a beer.

A restaurant which doesn't want to accommodate you, won't. But being Polite and requesting has more chances of getting you in. And if you are actually famous, and the real deal, the restaurant will know who you are and hook you up.

I did this as a regular guy at a Michelin star restaurant in our city! It worked!
Also always tip very handsomely!
Friday night super busy I called that morning and they got us in at the bar first then a table!
