This is why the DSi XL is the best way to play original DS games. Instead of stretching them it's pixel perfect. It's incredible how crisp games like Pokemon Black/White look on it.

I never noticed any blur on the original 3ds playing ds games, but this was a good tip when im gonna buy me any of the xl models

Fun fact: When done on GB and GBC Virtual Console games, it also adds a Gameboy border. On the 3DS XL, this is actually the same size as the real console!

OMG it works! I get my 2DSXL out sometimes just for fun and I guess over time I thought that the resolution of MarioKartDS was super old and subpar, tried your trick and it looks amazing— just like I remember as a kid. Bless you 🙌🏻

I Learned about this back when I had my old 2DS and read in a Gameboy Virtual Manual that you can hold Start, Select, or Both to make the Game Pixel Perfect (With a GameBoy Border), but then I wanted to try it with other Virtual Console, too, I Tried it with NES... no Luck, Then I Tried it with some old DS Games and to my surprise, it actually did something.

Pixel perfect resolution is nice and all, but I prefer less black borders and having the display at a reasonable size.

For whatever reason I just never noticed. This is coming from somebody with fond memories of playing the DS despite mostly playing that in my adulthood. I grew up playing Game boy but ended up having more fond memories of the DS to an extent

I ended up buying a DSi XL it has the best screen on the DS family of consoles. It truly makes a difference.

That was honestly a big advantage of the Vita. The PS Vita is 2x the resolution of the PSP, meaning you get a clean fullscreen upscale of psp games. The best way to play DS games on a large screen with original hardware is the DSi XL
