A brief demonstration of DS Download Play

I'm planning on making another video was going to demonstrate this feature for anyone who wanted an explanation, but decided to have it as a seperate video.

DS Download play was probably one of the most underrated features on the handheld. I remember after school playing New Super Mario Bros vs Mode with my friends for such a long time until we got picked up, despite only myself owning the game. Great memories and such a intuitive feature especially back then.

A fun piece of trivia... 3DS exclusive Download Play games are not stored in RAM, but the flash memory used to store the operating system. When the game is closed, the child software remains on the device albeit hidden so that you cannot launch it again from the HOME Menu. However, it can be launched again with homebrew software like FBI, and some games like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon do not need a parent to initiate a game, so you can essentially keep a cut down version of Luigi's Mansion 2 as long as you don't overwrite it with another download.

Download play was amazing. I remember having friends over, everyone on sofas with one copy of metroid prime hunters having deathmatches. Was such a great experience and seamless. No screenlooking on the DS!

Here’s some games for the game boy advance that only needs one cartridge, while the other gameboys linked up just use the download play (done automatically with just hooking up the link cable when system in standby mode)

I remember having an 8 player bomberman game with 7 other kids in a hotel lobby. Absolute carnage and incredible that we only needed my copy for all 8 of us.

Mario Vs Luigi mode in NSMB, Mario Party DS and Mario Kart DS were other highlights.

the PSP had Shareplay, which is very similar, expect you can keep the partial game installed on the SD Card / internal Memory for as long as you wish, and you can still launch it as many times as you want without having to download every time, some games only worked for multiplayer, but a surprisingly amount of full games would download a playable demo into your friend's console they can try even without your console to host it

mariokart ds back in the days 4 players.. sadly download play for mario kart ds was limited.we al had the (flash) cartridges...

I brought two NDS lite cause it's cheap nowadays and played Tetris DS with my lil bro in the same room, I have to say it's so fun and we play for more than 5-15 minutes to spent together just a game

Is the 3DS compatible with DS download play, except the game host is using the DS/DLite

its funny how modern gaming is far better and far worse then 2005.

like the DS something as simple as download play is kind of mind boggling and the fact you cant really do that on PC or xbox is also strange but obviously its due to greed.
