Bodmas= bracket off, dividing, multiple, addition, and minize.

But you didnt reslove the parenthesis until last. Which isnt pemdas. Or am I mistaken?

I see it as 8/2(2+2) with the 2 multiplier applying to the parenthesis so essentially 8/[2(2+2)]
Or as you used
8/2(2+2)
Reduce parenthesis
8/2(4)
Resolve parenthesis
8/8
Solve
1

BODMAS is
Brackets,
Order (of powers or roots), Division/ Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction.

Division and multiplication are equal and the calculation order depends only on which one is written before the other (left to right).

Same principle for Addition and Subtraction.

There was no 'Order' in the example.

To clear confusions both multiplication and division get the same amount of importance.
Same can be said with addition and subtraction.
Because of this you have to do the sum from left to right ( after solving the bracket of course )

Hope you understand 🙃

First problem answer is 16 (easy); second problem answer is 1.

This is too easy for anyone to understand 😊

I am pretty sure but I might be wrong but the answer for
3(1+2)/9=-91

Calculators are electronic devices subject to the GIGO principle. Garbage In =Garbage Out. They have no independent knowledge of the properties of multiplication. They only do what they are programmed to do. In this case, that is incorrect.

This particular instance the Associative Property does not really come into play.

The Commutative Property states that a number may be factored into constituent multiplicative values, and the order those values are presented does not affect the result.
8÷2(2+2)=8÷(2+2)2=1

The Distributive Property says that the coefficient value distributes equally among the contents of the parenthetical.
8÷2(2+2)=8÷(4+4)=1

The Identity Property says that any number is equal to itself. And A÷A=1
2(2+2)=8
2(2+2)÷2(2+2)=1
2(2+2)÷8=1
8÷2(2+2)=1

The Neutral Element property of multiplication says that Every variable and parenthetical has a coefficient. If one is not written, then that coefficient is the multiplicative identity of 1.
8÷(2(2+2))=8÷1(2(2+2))=1

Every applicable property of multiplication dictates that the correct answer is 1.

Distance ÷ 2πR= revolutions
120"÷2π(11"+1")=1.59 revolutions
Distance ÷ πD= revolutions also
120"÷π(22"+2")=1.59 revolutions
In every case this is true.

The ans to the math problem:1

Solution:3(2+1) divided by 9 = 3(3) divided by 9 = 9 divided by 9 = 1

The answer is 1. Because you always start with the () then everything else follows, however there are exceptions.

This is a poorly written expression leading to ambiguity. It should be written as
(8/2)(2+2) = 16 or
8/(2(2+2)) = 1
In higher maths, multiplication by juxtaposition has a higher priority than x, ÷, / or • multiplication so 2(2+2) would have to be completed before the division leaving the answer 1.

I'm pretty sure this is designed to get as many replies as possible. Since answering 1 will confuse people. Do we think the first question is 1? or the second question is 1?
Just for clarification
1=16
2=1

1st answer is 16, and the second is 1

There are technically two answers, 1 and 16. It depends on how strictly you follow PEMDAS.
8÷2(2+2) becomes 8÷2(4), and then the direction shifts.

If you strictly follow the flow of PEMDAS, it turns to 8÷8, which is 1
If you follow the P E MD AS breakdown and follow through where you do left-to-right sequence on the MD and AS parts, it would go 4(4) which is 16.

Sadly I've been out of school too long to know which is correct.

I don't know, why it's controversial at all?
We are making mistake in comprehending the issue! 2(2+2) which is two times two plus two and we cannot jump into operations associated with it before attaining the result of 2(2+2) and once we've started the doing the part we cannot forsake it in the middle of it to perform another operation associated with it anyway and it obeys associative law of mathematics! Should we do this it's breaking the law of association and it's not the question of first division and then multiplication but following an important rule of mathematics what could we do if it was like 8 ÷ (2+2)2 the same thing as 8÷2(2+2) and in both the cases the results must fetch the same value, i.e., 1!

For the first problem, the answer is 16. The second problem the answer is 1.

If Y÷X(X+X)
You expand the brackets.
So becomes Y÷(X^2+X^2)
So it's Y÷2X^2
So sub Y=8 and X=2 what do you get?

I got 1; PEDMAS. There are no exponents so start with parentheses getting 4 then by Multiplication gets us 8. Lastly Division gives us 1. I may be wrong it’s been awhile but that’s how I was taught.

You are correct but it's a very poor didactic and it is not how math is used in real life. That's not how engineers, mathematicians, or physicists would use the system.
