I don’t understand why people assume that aliens would be hostile or competitive to our being here…

Consider the Octopi (I prefer that spelling) that are very different from us, yet also seem unusually intelligent in their own way, but at the same time, have unusually short lifespans (around three years)- for intelligence to develop and “prosper” in ways we humans usually connect with intelligence… what are they? Maybe they are linages of bodies developed by Aliens/for Aliens, to visit earth in, without sacrificing too much time out of bodies waiting somewhere else…

Seems obvious that, if another intelligent species were to discover us, and notice that we seems to be evolving in a direction that will allow us to someday come to find it, that that other intelligent species would wish to at least monitor, and probably wish to be involved in our evolution…
