I think the answer to this question is that the universe is way too big to determine if life exists outside of our solar system. We are not dealing with a single light year of distance, but billions!

One of the best allegories about the existence of alien life is you going to the ocean, scooping a glass of water, looking at it and based on that evidence, saying whales don't exist... The size of the universe combined with our limited technology to explore beyond a miniscule fraction of it means we might not get a definitive answer to this question for a while...

i hope this question gets answerd in a vew years, because the james webb space telescope, which gets launched this year, is a lot better for studying a planet...

Basically the answer is yes

It’s just that everything is so mind bogglingly far apart that humans will probably only find some microbes on an ice planet at best

Imagine receiving a signal from a Planet which is 30000 light years away. Now the signal you have received is 30000 years old by that time even the exo planetary creatures who sent that would even have faced extinction. So finding life form and communicating with it would be really hard with this much of a slow communicating speed

Our universe is so unbelievably HUGE! It's so large that we can't even begin to comprehend its vastness.
Even if this all was a Matrix style simulation, there will be others out there, running the program.
