Put on the roof sunshade. Tint the windows. Vent(lower down the windows slightly). Start the AC 5-10 minutes before walking back to the car. It should be fine.

I have roof shade, cracked windows when out and about but when at home in the driveway, all windows rolled down. I turned off the protection because it will eat into the battery range, then degrade battery. Inside cabin was about 145 hot when windows rolled up tight.

I've used my cabin overheat set at 90F in 90F temps and used about 3-4% of my battery during a 9 hour workday. Car in open parking lot, zero shade. Sure is nice hopping into a nice cool car after walking across a hot concrete parking lot.

how hot is too hot for the interior parts and electronics? so far i've seen 157'F in Houston w/o COP on. i use the fan only which keeps it around 120'F. i have ceramic tint all around including 80% windshield tint, no tint on roof. i also use windshield shade and roof shade. a few minutes before leaving work, i vent windows and turn on the a/c, i've even opened up the trunk (MYLR) via app.

Thanks! Just confirming, it doesn’t hurt the car for the inside to get too hot?

Is it bad for the screen or anything if I don’t keep it below 100° ?

The Cabin Overheat Protection system is terrible! I live in Las Vegas where it’s routinely over 100 degrees F each day in summer. I started by putting the COP on for 90 degrees. After a few hours of shopping, came back to the car and it was 104 in the cabin… several times, nost just a one time deal. It was only going for 2 hours AND the battery was greater than 20%. Why even bother having the options of 90/95/100 degrees if it allows 104 the several times I’ve tried to use it. Not well designed nor does it work as it’s supposed to. I use the Keep Climate On mode during my time the car is parked, or just turn the AC on when I’m about 15 minutes from entering the car.

First summer with mine and these last two days have been the hottest in Massachusetts and WOW it drained… this might be a dumb question but does the glass roof cause any damage to the interior from the sun’s reflection?

Isnt that feature is for prevent melting down the electronics due to extra heat in cabin?

mines set to 100w AC, its 97 most of today...used 5% over the course of an 8 hour day parked in the sun

Would be nice if you could have vent be used in during the cabin overheat protection. Even better if it automatically goes up if rain is detected. You shouldn't need overheat protection if it starts raining anyway.

So it won't hurt the car's electronics if you turn it off? That's my main concern...

Yes we were able to close windows before and we were able to have the windows close automatically when the car locks, they just got disabled for a while because someone found out that Tesla's pinch protection was not good enough and NHTSA forced them to disable remote Windows closing until they fixed the issue. In my experience since 2020, the vent feature is not that effective when the car is under the sun, also the car knows the windows are not fully closed so it will try to save energy with the climate control because it knows that the cold will just get out from the open windows. I honestly believe that cabin overheat protection has been created for hot climates to prevent any cheap material in the car from getting molten or burnt from the heat, so recommending to turn it off in hot climates to save a little bit energy seems counterproductive and it can be used by people who don't own teslas but rent them, and potentially cause damage to the owners' vehicles, and again I put an emphasis on "potentially, " one should prepare for certain occasions like heat waves and charge the car accordingly if there are no plugs in the areas where the car will be left for hours. I never had an issue with cabin overheat protection munching on my juice and I do leave the car under the sun occasionally

Why not just use climate from your phone

Disagree. 23 MY LR. I use it and can barely tell a difference in battery level. The energy usage screen will tell you how much energy used while parked. Also if I'm not mistaken, the very expensive computer chips are in the cabin...I'd prefer them not to be 140 degrees on a daily basis. (live in Indiana)

Thanks for the video. I was using 6% battery while at work for 8 hours. I just turned it off. Didn't realize there was also preconditioning that you can set under the Schedule in the phone app. So i can set it to activate 15 mins before i leave to go home and just set it to Weekdays. I also added the roof shades and front window shade.
