My baby girl was not born with this specific defect but at three days old she needed open heart surgery and because of the swelling afterwards, her chest cavity had to remain open and her heart was just left exposed with only a thin protective plastic. It was extremely distressing to see my newborn baby like that. I hope this little one made a full recovery and lives a long and happy life.
