The Hebrew name for the Book of Numbers is Bamidbar which means, “in the desert.”

Why did God call for a census of the people? It’s curious that in Hebrew there is no word for “count.”  Instead, God’s command to number the people can mean “to lift up the heads of the people”—especially meaningful after they were enslaved for so long.

By lifting their heads, they were no longer looking at their masters. And remember: you only count what’s valuable. In Egyptian slavery, the Children of Israel had lost their sense of value. In numbering them,  God was saying, “I want you to rediscover your worth.”

The more I learn from videos like this the true, Hebraic meaning of words incorrectly translated into English, the better I understand the meaning of the Bible. Understanding the correct translation of The Torah is the only way to understand the Gospels.
