What is it that is keeping men over 50 from building muscle? Stick around and I will give you the top 5 muscle building mistakes for men over 50. It is time to stop being frustrated with lack of results, and time to start building muscle. Let’s get started with the biggest mistakes men over 50 make when trying to build muscle.

Mistake #1: NUTRITION. Life can be very fast paced, and you just look for whatever is convenient. The last thing you want to have is processed foods. You need to focus on having whole, nutrient dense foods. Make sure you are eating lean proteins, fibrous carbs, complex carbs on days with resistance training for fuel and recovery, and essential fats.

Mistake #2: DOING TOO MUCH TOO FAST. As you get older, you can’t go as fast as when you were 20 and 30. There are ways to work out to get those same benefits, without going too fast and possibly causing injury.

Mistake #3: HAVING NO PLAN. Random plans are not designed specifically for you, especially older men. A workout plan for a 30 year old is not necessarily going to work for men over 50. You want to have a plan designed specifically for you to help you build muscle.

Mistake #4: NOT ENOUGH REST. You need to prioritize your rest days, you do not want to overtrain. Resistance train 3-4 days a week then the other days are rest and recovery days. It is okay to be active on your days off from resistance training, just make sure you eat enough calories to recover on those days off, depending on your activity.

Mistake #5: RELYING ON SUPPLEMENTS. Supplements are there to substitute in a sub-optimal diet. When you are eating right, you don’t need a protein supplement to build muscle. Optimize your routine before starting any supplements. Utilize compound exercises to help increase your hormones and help you burn fat while building muscle.

You need to have consistency if you want results when trying to build muscle and lose fat. Take your plan day by day, and set goals that are realistic to achieve. Take it step by step and focus on each day, and you will get your results.

Im 59 years old and workout 6 days a week, I feel great! I think most people don't eat enough real foods. I take supplements such as creatine monohydrate since I'm not enhanced or on PED's, I also use protein powder still since I started lifting since I was 17. I do stay away from junk and sugar foods, have not eaten processed food a long time. My test stays good, I eat Brazil nuts that help test levels. The diet means everything! I'm not jack, Ive kept my 28" waist, have 17.9" arms, I think its pretty good for 59?👍👍👍

There isn't any fat loss tea or a magic pill. There are only smart dieting and training. *Agoge Diet* is a great tool to start with because it gives you everything you need to reach your fitness goals.

I am 53 and started working out 3 weeks ago. I am working out everyday during the week and taking the weekends off. Is this too much?
I do arms and legs on Monday, Chest and shoulders on Tuesday back and legs on Wednesday then arms again on Thursday and chest and legs on Friday.

So, when you're talking about nutrition and complex carbs, how can I lose weight and gain muscle mass while eating potatoes and rice? I just started working out 17 days ago, and have reduced my calories down to 1800. I've reduced my carbs to 80g a day. I've lost 6 pounds with diet changes and 5 minutes stretching + 20 minutes cardio a day. Starting today I'm adding 10 minutes resistance band based on your channels videos. I'm just worried about gaining weight from the carbs. I appreciate any input. Thanks, your channel is an inspiration!

I'm 62 and I have been doing resistance training with dumbells for over 3 years. I've noticeably improved my legs, chest and arms by a few centimetres in circumference. I train arms 3 x a week, and legs with abdomen on the other 3 days. My question is, when should I take a break, after how many weeks of continuous training? How long should this break take?

If you are in retirement age put a 7 am alarm. Walk for an hour, good for your heart and mind. Ride bicycle for half an hour. Hit the weights.
Go easy on them, use lighter weights more repetition. Drink two whiskey in the afternoon. Do this Monday thru Friday.

Don't make excuses for age. Nutrition is essential for ALL ages as is rest. Progressive overload and lifting heavy works for all ages. I am 70 and deadlift 320, bench 255 and I continue to build muscle and lift heavier. Weightlifting has never been easy at any age. So don't make excuses because of your age.

I’ll be 71 in May. I’m not wanting to walk the Florida beaches with bulging muscles but I’d like to tone up quite a bit and see some definition in my muscle groups. I’m 5’-9” and 167 lbs. Do you have a work out plan for my age?

Thanks dear for the tips

It’s re rest periods
I’m approaching 70, and had multiple heart attacks and open💔 surgery.

When you suggest few days work out and couple of days rest, then do you mean consecutive days work out and then few consecutive days rest?
Or one day work out and the next day rest?

Thanking you in anticipation

The supplements I take are critical to my fitness success but my food intake is just as important.

No That's a funny recommendation!! I'm to take protein and creatine from whole foods only??? Do you have any idea how much foods I've to eat?
