I spoke to our county permit inspector in south Alabama and he said you don't need a permit if you don't attach the structure to the house. I like your design and will do something very similar to your design! Thank you for sharing!!

You are doing really great for a DIY. Your talent shows. Not sure what the code is in your area, but with as much expense and time that you have put into this amazing construction, few small but critical things seems to be missing or not visible in your videos. Your house is the strongest structure you currently have (assuming u didn't build it yourself...hahahaha), so it is customary to use it as a foundation for other structures like you are doing. Free standing decks and deck covers without hurricane ties can be dangerous in the long run. There's a reason why those persky simpson ties are expensive... They save you from losing your house to a lawsuit. Great job doing all this by yourself.

Why is the double band closest to the house only have support under the outer most band? Why didn't you just lag it to the house, that's only a few inches closer to it. That way you lag it into the house and it would be extra secure. Have some other questions. These are genuine question, not trying to down you or anything.
