DIY Porch - Veranda - Patio Cover

today we are showing you how to build a patio cover - veranda - or porch for you DIY go getters at home that most builders don't do. Our technique is different from others because we utilize the existing roof structure of the house to gain height for our patio ceiling. Most other builders will put the roof rafters on top of the top plate of the house wall construction, by doing so they are limiting the height of the patio cover.
We are located in Gilbert Arizona, and are licensed Residential and commercial builder, as well as an electrician.

I would have liked to see the transition in roofing from the sloped roof to flat roof. I’m retrofitting a spot where the previous owner used shingles on a “flat” roof (<3:12) and continued them up the sloped roof. Now I need to fix a small leak and not ready to redo the entire roof.

The difference in price on the brackets is you the listing for 4” but used 6”. Definitely a difference in price and even more so if pre-pandemonium.

So glad to hear you got your permit and built it to code. Started watching one before this with the guy saying I’m just winging it. Stopped watching when he used 2x4’s for rafters and didn’t know what a roof pitch was. Some people say it is just for me and my family and I’m not selling, except when you have friends visit. There’s so much liability with all that wood overhead.

Would’ve loved to see details on how the existing roof was covered back to preven water and bugs from going in under the new roof. Can kind of see but not clear at the 5:36 mark
