My uncle says the tau don’t actually exist. He says it’s more heretical propaganda. Emperor protects.

There's nothing inevitable about Chaos or Chaos wouldn't *be* Chaos. It's belief in the lie of inevitability that leads to despair and fall to the Warp.

Never forget:
It's all about THE greater good.
Not YOUR greater good.

I preferred the older background where the Tau were intentionally created / uplifted as a high tech race by Eldar as a bulwark against chaos since they had hardly any warp presence and so were very resistant to turning to chaos.

Also Chaos notoriously lies / deceives so I’ll prefer to see this as a possible future / attempt to convert him and not the certain future. Other background from the HH has made it clear future visions aren’t guaranteed to happen in the universe but are just visions of possible futures.

I always thought the Tau were meant to be a reflection of early mankind, trusting too greatly to the living machines. Ai uprisings. Their own version of the men of iron.

Imperium sees the Tau being consumed by Chaos:….”sounds like a you problem.”

He who allows the alien to live shares in the crime of it's existence.

I genuinely want more for the Tau, but idk if chaos is the right path for them. I think it'd be more fitting if they broke apart of their own accord. Just because chaos is a solution to writers block doesn't mean it HAS to be THE solution. Still cool sounding regardless.

I like the Idea that when tau venture far enough from their homeworld they start to fracture and became independent empire. they are not thecnophobia like imperium so if Votann can survive they can too. So the faction will be:
Original Tau with Etherals still in control
Farsight Enclave
StarStride Nexus Tau (Shadowsun Enclave)
Chaos tau with each Chaos god for ewach caste (Fire/Khorne, Earth/Nurgle, Water /Tzeencth, Air/Slaanesh)
Cult of tauva (Human with Tau tech)

I want the Tau to go thru some identity-reshaping event, some great existential struggle. They havent had something like this thus far. Humans and Elves did, so it's only natural that Tau need such event as well.

I love that Kais from that old fire warrior fps is still getting shoutouts in the lore. Showing up alongside shadowsun in farsight's vision as a vanquished rival puts him in very high regard. Here's hoping we'll see in model form someday

The Tau will achieve great things if they can capitalize on the one asset they have that no other faction possesses.

Time.

They may not have any heavy hitters like the Primarchs or Harlequins but unlike every other faction they are not racing the clock. There is no failing Golden Throne or plan that requires their own extinction. Nothing is waiting to eat their souls and they are not running from the mistakes of their ancestors. If they can achieve the level of technology humanity once possessed they will not even be outgunned anymore. Time is their ally. Time is their hope. Nothing the demons can offer them is as valuable as what they already have.

Personally, I hate this angle for the Tau. It was one thing when they were originally released, and were a candle-light of good in a universe of unending war, pain, and suffering. It was even acceptable when they got a rewrite and became an Orwellian society, with the Ethereals dictating what is double-plus good for the other castes.

It was nice having a faction that were kind of "outsiders". Mostly fresh on the scene, learning about threats in the galaxy as they encounter them for the first time. They aren't the only faction teetering on the edge of extinction, but they might be one of the only that doesn't realize how tenuous their position is. And that's kind of exciting in a narrative sense. The Tau can be threatened by a *branch* of a hive fleet coming too close, or orks getting bored and stirring things up again. The Imperium could seriously threaten them just by accidentally deploying too many troops near to Tau space. A threat to the Tau Empire doesn't have to be something that's going to scour the entire galaxy of life, or collapse it all into a super massive black hole, or consume/enslave the souls of every living thing.

Also, them being mostly unaffected by the warp was a cool concept too, since it's kind of tiring to have anyone trying to play villain do so by putting spiky bits all over their stuff. The fact that the Tau can play villain through diplomacy was a nice touch too, since it helped show how xenos influence could be insidious, without being a direct threat to someone's body or soul. Finally, I just kind of like their aesthetic as is. They manage to visually stand out from the Eldar, who have a similarly sleek Art Nouveau appeal. They also get cool stompy robots that stand out from the Imperium's more brutalistic design choices.

Imagine how dumb you have to be to believe in the lies of a demon

Bear in mind that time and space are so fucked up in the Warp that the 4th Edition Daemons codex says that Slaanesh was born from the Eldar, always existed and never existed _at the same time._
