"Robert was neither mad nor cruel, he simply had no interest in being KING."

The moment you realize that he was a war time king without a war.

Robert was way smarter than people gave him credit for
You don't win almost every single battle you've ever fought on muscle alone

GRRM didn't expect Robert to have so many fans
Thanks to Mark Addy who made Robert Baratheon famous

I think Cersei later on was probably wishing it was only Viserys and 40, 000 Dothraki.

robert was a conquerer not a ruler and this interaction shows it

Cersei was the most infuriating character. She thought she was smarter than everyone, even though she is proven to be wrong on every move she makes.

Loved Robert’s character. Great actor playing him.

People see Robert as a drunk fool but forget He was raised by Jon Arryn, one of the wisest lords ever. Also after defeating Rhaegar and becoming King, Robert led an era of peace until the greyjoy rebellion (which was smashed like a bug)

Robert was not a king, he was a General.

Robert Baratheon was such an underrated character. We're looking at a man who's a shell of his former self, ignoring his kingdom and wallowing in self-pity and excess to fill a hole in his heart. He's directionless, he has no focus or drive, and his fire has completely gone out. But there are a handful of moments where the old Robert shines through, and you realize that this man is smarter than 99% of the characters in the show, with impeccable visual clarity and a detailed understanding of the situation that Westeros stands on the brink of.

Brilliant acting, brilliant writing, it's a shame we didn't get more of him.

Mark Addy was such a phenomenal casting choice for Robert Baratheon. Whenever I reread the ASOIAF books, I CANNOT picture Robert Baratheon without seeing Mark Addy.

The crazy part? This entire scene is a show original; not a word of it is in the books. Makes the middle and end hurt more, knowing that the writers absolutely could make amazing, original work with George's templates.

Cersei knows who start a war. Robert knows how to win a war.

Robert was the best king on the show by far. He may not have ruled but that's only because he knew the realm was in good hands. There's wisdom in knowing what you are good at and what you are not, especially if you are the hailed as the "all powerful king." Delegating power is key and Robert did it correctly. This is basically what Tywin was trying to tell Tommen. Listen to your councilors. Of course sometimes he ignored Jon Arryn and spent a ton of money on pleasure but nothing bad enough to tear the realm apart. He understood the bare minimum needed to keep the realm together better than any other king on the show. He married for political gain as well, ensuring his heirs would not have financial problems. He gets bashed for putting the crown in debt but vassals lending money and having bonds with the crown is a good thing, not to mention the fact that it's his wife's house so it doesn't really matter. If we assume he wasted money at a consistent rate then the coffers would be empty long before the Greyjoys rebellion which he is still able to put down with the full might of Westeros. He rid the realm of the degeneracy of the mad king and the Targaryens! He knows when to assert his power as king and when to take things seriously. He's very quick to act on national security threats. House Targaryen were the only dynasty Westeros has ever known but they still abandoned it for Robert. Hia personally held the realm together and he inspired so much loyalty. His one fault was that he didn't recognize his children were not his and he alienated his brothers, thus dividing house Baratheon only one generation after they won the throne. To be fair, he hired a hand who figured it out immediately. Also, it shows that he wasn't obsessed with dynasty which is a virtue.

Honestly, to me Robert is the example of "I'm super smart in one thing, but stupid in alot of other things" he was a brilliant man when it came to war
