Fun fact: Hans Oster actively worked against the famous Austrian, he even warned the Netherlands for the upcoming attack on May 10th 1940

It says on Amazon customers who bought this book also bought a refrigerator water filter. Will this aid in my understanding of the text?

The military also wasn't the only thing that used to be allowe to govern itself in Germany. Students also used to have their own University Parliaments, justice system and even Student Jails (Karzer)

I've heard that Mr. H was really only a regular level dictator during the early years. IE, regular people can't do anything, but he still has to worry about other power centres. It was only with the Fall of Paris that he was able to gain a sort of Messianic absolute power. Things could have fallen apart for him earlier on if things went poorly.

The so called autonomy of German military especially OKH with its Prussian military ethos existing as "State within State" was also one of the main roots of problem during crisis years of Weimar Republic era at the beginning of 1930'ies. Hitler and National Socialist Party had a lot of Great War veterans among its ranks esp in SA and SS which made them symphatic to ultra conservative German military chiefs and OKH whose were mainly attracted to Nazis due to their common shared hostility to not only social democratic nature of Weimar Reublic but also against far left and communism. "I scratch your back" and "you scratch my back" or "enemy of my enemy is my friend" concepts were calamitious and short sighted misreadings of situation for German military leadership who gave Hitler and Nazis eventually what they wanted in exchange for monarchy like hard conservative state and strong military vision but actually they were swallowed by Nazi state eventually.

What is also worth noting is that Hitler indulged the Wehrmacht's belief by throwing the SA under the bus (obviously, that was not the only reason for the night of the long knives, but it certainly was a factor) to get their favour.

Honestly, the "state within a state" does not ring as a nice thing either to me.

During the first two years the new Hitler Cabinet did have to appease the military, namely Hitler got rid of all the radicals in his party and demoted or even liquidated members of his party's paramilitary organisations (Rohm being a good example).

Taking over the military was quite a feat.

But wasn't Hitler's authority still contested until 1938 when the Blombeg-Fritsch Affair occured?

The top brass was corrupted and the lower ranks were between clueless and manipulated, but i wonder if prussian traditions stayed in the middle ground, amongst the equivalent of colonels and brigadiers. The Wehrmacht was the german service after all and there were still old military families.

It needs to be said that this system of a state within a state is neither unique to prussia nore the military.

The church is the origin of this system and remains as such to this day in many places.
In most german states, the system was also in place for many other things.
During the HRE time, cities inside larger territories often held autonomy from the ruler of the land, and parts of cities often held authority from the city council.
Universities also used this system, even more so than the prussian military.
While the milotary ultimately reported to the prussian king and had to follow prussian laws (often special military laws) passed by the king, universities in most of germany had their own laws, police force, justice system and even punishments for students commiting crimes on campus. The university also shoelded students from outside justices. Hence why you hear stories of "rampaging students" and "out of control student events" so often. The students would thrash a bar or restaurant and then hide on university land for a while. Usualky the university would not bother with punishing them, even if they did the punishment was usually much leas severe when compared to what a normal citizen would receive. Universities also refused to hand over students to city judges most of the time.

On paper Hitler was in charge but the military still retained a deal of autonomy, and certainly the autonomous tradition. Had war broken out with Czechoslovakia, or had the war against Poland and 1940 countries not been a resounding success, the army could've been much more widely anti Nazi. But of course this didn't happen, the successes made Hitler a victorious leader and the army was welded to the Nazis by joint complicity in the war crimes of operation Barbarossa.

at 1:13 when Army officers are rendering a traditional salute, and Nazis giving the fascist salute; what is the organization of the officer, wearing glasses to the (visual) right, second row, from the Field Marshall in front?

As I have said, the Allies didn't defeat Germany, the Nazis did.
And we defeated the Nazis.
