Crazy how foreigners are so much more optimistic about our military than we germans ourselves lol

After reunification, no country wanted Germany to become militarily strong. Germany obeyed, and now it is being scolded for it. Not entirely fair.

I was a soldier in the Bundeswehr for 12 years. From 1995 to 2007. I saw the transformation of the Bundeswehr from a defense force into a “NATO operational force”. You had to borrow whatever you could just to support the NATO missions. The BW's low budget has been criticized by various parties for over 30 years. Now, unfortunately, all the concerns and fears that were expressed are coming true.

A true gamer statement: Why are the Germans bad at war when they are on our side 😂

This will not happen until Germany fixes their military procurement process.

The G36 rifle "scandal" was so overblown even here in Germany at the time. The overheating problem only came when continuously firing for long periods of time. Never when used like a rifle is: short bursts. All soldiers i talked to, especially those stationed in afghanistan, swore by it especially because of its reliability and comparatively light weight. Especially compared to the very heavy FAMAS the french were using.

5:19, Germany does not actually own their own nuclear warheads... they are NATO aka US nuclear warheads.

You get it wrong. Our hardware isn`t dysfunctional - it works perfect. They are only not operational on Paper because "TÜV". Our Vehicals needs every serval years a check and if only a light isn`t working ir falls into the statistic not operational. But it dosen`t matter in a real conflict. I am in the Bundeswehr and know it. :)

I knew a guy who served in the Belgian Air Commando. He told me about NATO joint exercises in Germany. They were posted up somewhere with tank columns passing by. He said several units of tanks came by, Americans and British, Canadians. The commanders were all wearing their uniforms and helmets, sitting up out of the cupolas. Then he said a German Leopard A1 came down the road. The guys were wearing nothing but speedos, sunning on top of the turret, drinking beers, and listening to loud techno music.

You started out saying Germany will become a military superpower and then spent 15 minutes dismantling your own

As a German, I can only say that Germany has several big problems.

1. Demilitarized people who are reluctant to invest more money in armaments and the army
2. Bureaucratic madness, everything takes far too long and there are unnecessary debates that last far too long
3. Hardly any of our own armaments factories left, Germany's armaments industry hardly exists anymore except for a few large companies
4. Relying militarily on other states such as the USA, France, etc
5. German politicians talk a lot instead of acting. When Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022, Olaf Scholz (German Chancellor) announced the so-called “turning point” which, as you can see, has not had much of an effect so far.

I hope that things will change quickly. The claim that Germany shouldn't rearm is total nonsense. Germany should be able to defend itself and its allies in an emergency instead of relying on others.

it is Poland which bought 1000 new tanks! Germany has only 181000 soldiers at the moment.

Poland is going to hit number 1 before Germany. They are next door to Ukraine and absolutely will not take another whopping by anyone like they did in WW2.

A fair and balanced video. Combines the negative and the positive with a realistic outlook and no blame game, but mostly facts. Well done!

I hate all “I’m sorry for WWII” atttude from Germany and Japan. Stand up and be proud of who you are because both countries have the potential to be the best in the world, they have proven that in the past but unfortunately had the wrong ideals.

As a German. Sorry But no. The Zeitenwende was over as soon as it was announced.

I somehow have a hunch, that Poland will be much quicker in rearming and perhaps even acquiring nuclear weapons, long before the Germans even get the discussion going...
