I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in January 2024. After undergoing a colonoscopy, I was put on medication, but it didn’t help. Fast forward a few months, and I started experiencing more bleeding, sometimes needing to use the bathroom 10-15 times a day due to bloody stools. In late March, I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy, but the results were essentially the same. I was then prescribed steroids, but as soon as the dosage was lowered, the bleeding returned. I traveled to India and was hospitalized for about a week, where they adjusted my diet from non-vegetarian to strict vegetarian, including a semi-liquid diet. After a 40-day stay in India, I returned home. Three months later, in September 2024, the bleeding started again, and I resumed taking steroids. While they help, they aren’t a long-term solution. Recently, I consulted another doctor who took blood samples, and they might start me on biologics soon. I’ll update once I have more information.

This was so informative, interesting, and helpful in expanding my understanding of my own UC. The detail that Nicotine is somehow protective is absolutely wild to me. Thank you for doing what you do!

I was diagnosed with crohn's disease in 2007 at the Louisville Medical Center in Kentucky. A few years ago in ft Lauderdale, by colonoscopy, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, so I'm rare with indeterminate Colitis. Then they said I had something as well called pankolitis. Also they mentioned at the same time I also have pancreatitis. Yeah this sucks but I'm managing through Kratom and weed oh and the big one God. Prayer does help.

there's an error: tobacco smoke is a risk factor ONLY for Crohn's Disease (not for UC)

Hello, I have some questions, I would be very happy if you answer them. In my pathology report: Slight increase in ascending colon sections, colon mucosa samples, surface epithelium and crypt epithelium.
Lymphocyte entry is monitored. With trichrome, there is a slight increase in collagen in the subepithelial region. No additional findings regarding mucin were found. Although the findings are 'partial' support, if they are clinically compatible, it can be considered collagenous colitis.
What exactly does this mean? Everywhere I went, IBS was accompanied by stools, sometimes solid and sometimes liquid.
My questions are: Is this an autoimmune disease? Is there a margin of error in pathology? I recently had gastroenteritis and e.coli was detected. Calprotectin is low. Does microscopic colitis appear and disappear or increase due to this? I would be grateful if you could answer me. There are so few resources and so little information.
