Yes, it's true af. CP is overrated. My peers got into big tech companies without doing CP. They just did Leetcode medium problems and they could easily clear those interview rounds. One of them even got into Amazon Dublin off campus without any CP experience.

I would say from my experience... Cp is good for increasing speed and thinking capacity. But real world opportunities is lot more than that. U need to know development stuff else u can't survive in the industry. Yes cp is overrated but at the same time I won't discourage that 😀

It's not overrated for tier-3 college students it really helps them land a interview at Big product companies.
Though cp is not necessary, but its good to have and opens up a plethora of opportunities especially if you are from tier-3 colleges.

Simple baat ye hai ki problem solving skills acchi honi chaiye OA's and Interview mei good impression le liye. And doing a little bit of cp side by side could help, but doing leetcode regularly is a must.

Asking folks who don't even carry out recruitment in india is not really insightful. As someone with a friend in a canadian uni, I can tell you that the way NA recruiters hire is more dev oriented. In both US and CA, there are almost no students with cp experience.so, a better thing to do would be ask folks from indian product based companies since freshman and sophomores in india have stupid craze for them.
PS yes, Leetcode is more than enough for cracking interviews of pretty much every company. But getting your resume selected is the main deal here esp. for tier -3 students. You can put CP skills in your resume these days and get noticed faster since it's the hot biz rn . At the same time, no denying if you are as good as Kunal, you will achieve even higher in terms of opportunities.

Is mark Zuckerberg is a competitive programmer or bill gates or elon musk.
This happen only in india that we are overrating the things.
Even we have 1.4 billion populations even now we don't have any google or facebook of our own.

Please don't restrict yourself from doing CP or development. Think about from where you can start your journey. In that way, you can do both and much more.
Also, In most of the companies you don't need to do CP. However, there are few companies who will ask CP type questions in coding test. That is only because they want candidates with good logics and higher problem solving abilities.
