Hey alex, long time fan of your talent and how honest you are man.

Im a part time gym bro (work, kids, wife) the 2 times ive pulled 495lbs right when i got to my knee i had a hammy pop. Not a twar, no bruising or longterm pain.

I struggle off the floor for some of the same reasons as you. I provide for my fam. Previously 2 herniated discs from previous job. And fear.

I am self taught just from watching you, hooper, dr mike etc. Found what style works and went with it. I have no training or programming i follow.

So ive decided to do a block of hypertrophy 315lb 12rep 5 set. To build strength. Before i go back to my 3x5 heavier sets you thing i should work in a few of these to the knee pulls. Or add them in my lower weight high rep sets?

Sorry for the long ass wall of text. Also thanks for all the videos man. Youve helped this old man alot.

Serious question: whats the point of using the thicker bar if youre gonna use straps? Doesnt that negate the entire purpose of the thick bar?

Damn man look at you being all lean now. Those look awesome

What axel bar do you use? I’ve seen rouge and titan but not sure if paying more for the “rouge” name tag is worth it but I’ve never bought anything titan before so not sure about the quality. I figured anything that can handle 605 with you can handle my little 315 😂

Dayum Grandpa is strong. That's the problem with the young generation they didn't have to labor like this man probably had to. Old Man strength really is a thing.

Weak quads or poor bracing would be my personal opinion on typical cause

That's probably suboptimal.... **Straight face**

I always feel like I can't brace and like I'm about to puke. this is just 225-315 though. maybe I just need more practice.

The only part of the deadlift you need to train imo

Do you not like deficits for this?

Or maybe I don’t understand what deficits are actually for? 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is a good variation but isnt everybody weakest off the floor? Thats the hardest part of the lift.

Why use thick bars if you are resorting to straps?

Do some people just be born with titanium shins or what. I deadlift once, maybe twice a week, and my shit looks like I got kicked by 500 wild horses constantly.

There are videos of Eddie hall deadlifting from the floor to knee pre/post his 500kg deadlift. He would lock out reps when getting into the most heavy weights of his prep tho. He contributed his explosiveness off the floor, to these partials reps and the brutally heavy leg presses he did. Also his setup with rolling the bar and his hips and whole body falling behind the bar, thinking about driving legs through the floor etc. helped him immensely get that leg drive going.
