POPE BENEDICT XVI: “People should not fear God, thinking he is always ready to punish, but rather they should love him because he is always ready to forgive.
God is not a relentless sovereign who condemns the guilty, but a loving father whom we must love not out of fear of punishment, but because of his goodness.
The Lord is a God who is just, but always ready to reveal himself as merciful and compassionate.”

Here in Florida, the Greek Catholics throw a big cross in the water off the sponge docks for Epiphany. Teenage boys dive for it.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping you'd say something about Wet Monday 😂
I'm from Poland and every time after Mass kids and teens (adults also) would do a huuuge water fight with our priests. It's always hilarious😂

Unfortunately we swedes grow up having no clue Santa Lucia is actually a Chatolic saint, it is just something we do as a tradition, and we have no clue to why..as always..."nah, I dunno why we do it, its tradition" But it is a really beautiful tradition. Especially when they are visiting the elderly in nursing homes.

Thank you

My husband’s family loves slicing the Rosca de Reyes on Epiphany! If you find the Infant Jesus in your slice you have to cook for the family on Candlemass. It’s a fun tradition.

In the Philippines:
* Basaan ("Watah-Watah") Festival on Saint John the Baptist Day, when people throw water at each other.
* Penitents scourge themselves and get crucified on the Holy Week.
* Carabaos (Asian water buffalo) are trained to kneel for Saint Isidore the Farmer on his feast day.

A catholic tradition that's popular where I am from is celebrating the nativity of the blessed virgin.

A week starting from Sept 1 - 8 families gather flowers and offer them to mother mary and sing devotional hymns to her.

On the feast day which is September 8th, families celebrate the harvest festival. Everyone sits on the floor and eats an array of vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf.

Its the rich tapestry of traditions that make Catholicism far more interesting and reflective of the numinous in a way that no Protest sect can rival. Thank you so much for focusing on the broad cornucopia of practices that make our faith perpetually engaging.

Where I live in France, we go to the top of mountains nearby on June 25 night and light up some fire, and people have a good time together, like a scout camp but for june 25. And as our parish has a relic of St James (a rib), we also do the same on July 25 as it is the feast day of our parish.

I love you book! I use it frequently and have really worked on incorporating liturgical living in our home and sharing it with our friends and family!

Wet Monday is pretty awesome. You don’t wear costumes, just go on regular fights with your siblings and neighbours and friends. If you’re dry on that day, you don’t know how to have fun.

Everyone should look into Carnaval de Podence, from northern Portugal, on Carnaval (Shrove Tuesday) people from the Vila of Podence dress up as strange Portuguese flag-coloured creatures and go about causing mischief around the town, as well as performing dances and music 😂

I love learning about other cultures! There is a tradition in Spain during the Immaculate Conception (December 8) called "Tió de Nadal". However, it has nothing to do with the Church and is the weirdest thing I've ever read. Pardon me if I'm mistaken about this information.
