4. Evil people are emboldened in its absence

I can't remember the preacher but I saw his video on YouTube a few years back. It was in response to some woman calling out atheist saying that they were terrible people as they didn't believe in religion or god. He responded by saying that atheists are gonna be some of the nicest people you meet because atheists don't believe in an afterlife. They don't believe in a higher power. They don't believe that anything needs redemption. Instead, they just trust and believe in their fellow man. What could be more noble?

Aside from Hitch, the best response I ever saw was in the Movie: "Waking Ned Devine". A small boy is chatting to a young priest and is curious about why he chose the priesthood. The Priest then asks; " Why! Have you yourself ever considered joining the priesthood?"
"Oh NO Father!" the shocked young boy replies.
" I couldn't be working for somewhat you can't SEE and who don't PAY me nothin!"

It’s “courageous” to tell people there is no hope and nothing after life that can help you push past your limits and make your suffering worth it. The fact is that’s not liberating for most people. You’re not freeing anyone with atheism, you’re enslaving them to nihilism and depression. I’ve seen it happen, I used to be an atheist. My life has improved greatly since accepting gods word and becoming a believer. I don’t think it’s evil to tell people something good is headed there way, if your correct, Hutchins, then we all lose. I believe in god, you believe in numbers and statistics that science will likely prove wrong and change in 20 years time.

I feel like that sort of claim is either intentionally inflammatory or willfully ignorant. We can no more disprove the existence of a diety than we can disprove unicorns, vampires, or the boogeyman. It is not up to an atheist to disprove, but for a theist to prove. And proof that does not begin with "this book says..." or "No one can explain X, so therefore there must be the god that I believe exists.
