The great thing about Hitchens is that he was true to himself to the bitter end.
I've heard/read that, while he was dying of cancer, one of the religious elders of Great Britain approached him to see if he was ready to convert (as some people do when death is **imminent**). He absolutely refused.

I like how Hitchens was always confident in his answers. Short and strong, "No". And then explains why.

The strength of his argument and the sharpness of his wit made his debate opponent laugh at his own religion's teachings.

He was a man whose arguments could reach you even if you were a professional member of a church.

After 25 years of having these debates, I find the deist position to largely be due to laziness. It's uncomfortable to think about some things, and people often delude themselves because it makes them feel better. I don't think delusions serve us, except for a few that we all have and cannot escape.
