The EAS always scared the shit out of me when I was little. I would just be watching Spongebob or Hannah Montana or something late at night when BAM! All of a sudden my dark room is drowned in blue light while a sudden series of beeps and boops are playing, followed by a voice that I always assumed was announcing the apocalypse.

Ever since I heard the EAS as a kid, I've had quite an interest to it. Although it scared the shit out of me, I got a weather radio and was fascinated at it, even though it woke me up at 1 in the morning before.

The attention signal (tone) is a combination of two different frequencies. It was specifically selected because they are known to create anxiety in humans. In other words, it's an effective attention-getter.

I get EAS, or at least Amber alerts quite often on my phone. I'm glad I do because I don't watch TV or listen to radio much.

The NWS warning messages will always strike fear and urgency into my heart whenever hear them. I live in the Midwest, so they're not uncommon- especially during tornado season.
