Coding Bootcamps Are Evil

In this video I discuss why despite being a bootcamp grad myself that I don't think bootcamps are an ideal option for most people looking to become a software engineer. I talk about how they shifted in priorities and how their curriculum doesn't offer anything unique. This does not mean you should avoid bootcamps at all cost because I do think there are people out there that may benefit from coding bootcamps. I do however, believe that if somebody was really ready to become a software engineer they could save the money and do it on their own.

Total agreement here. Did a coding bootcamp back in 2014 and struggled for years afterwards. I eventually got into the industry and am doing well but the bootcamp had absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, it did so much damage that I think it's entirely likely I would have gotten into the industry faster had I never attended.

Dude, you went to a bootcamp, and everyone I know who has a job either had a degree or a bootcamp, I dont know anyone who is only self taught. I tried doing it myslef. I had like 8 or 9 interviews, applied to 800 jobs, and nothing worked and its so depressing doing it myself. Thats why I decided to go to FlatIrons school, starting January 9th.
