Over the decades, successive literary and cinematic offerings have gradually bastardised the original interpretation of the vampire from that of a terrifying and murderous monster, into a somewhat romanticised and almost comedic caricature. But the reality behind the concept of vampirism is far removed from the fantasy, borne out of a flurry of brutal and truly horrifying murders. This week, we meet America’s Vampires.

While Bram Stoker's Dracula has become the far more pervasive text, and indeed at the time garnered more popularity, John William Polidori's 'The Vampyre' was actually responsible for the image of the aristocratic or gentlemanly vampire and a lot of the other traits you mention in the creation of modern vampire narratives. It precluded Dracula by (I think) 80 years and was something Stoker was familiar with for sure. Obviously 'Dracula' is it's own entity but it didn't break the ground you claim it does here.

as soon as I had heard the name James Brown
I immediately thought of the whole ship's crew dancing and jamming

I love how the Comte de Saint Germaine was name-dropped as if his story in and of itself wouldn't make a crazy episode Bedtime Stories.

The only vampires that scare me are the ones passing the bar exam. 😀

I get that vampires are a staple of horror, but this was a top notch episode all around. Excellent work and well worth the wait.

Wow, I lived near Dillsboro, North Carolina, for 20 years, and visited Dillsboro shops, all the time. I never knew this amazing history.
Dillsboro has beautiful, family owned shops, with handmade fudge, candy, quilts, glassware, etc. It is a uniquely stunning place with the Tuskasegee Rivers & Little Tennessee Rivers running through.
The train crash scene, from the movie, "The Fugitive" was filmed in that area. The train car is still there. And I worked in the ER & ICU that Harrison Ford pretended to be a doctor there, who saved a young boys life, rewriting orders for the child, in the same movie!

In my opinion, this was the creepiest and best of your stories of the past year.
Of course, that’s like saying one jewel is prettier than the other jewels.

I love how each Sunday night, I get to end the week settling into bed with the latest Bedtime Stories’ story!

For future videos, can I request the Order of Nine Angles, Dulce Base/underground lizard people, Sawney Bean and the Toronto Tunnel Monster?
