There’s actually a theory on what the actual “vampire” infection could have been most believe it’s rabies as rabies makes you pale, sensitive to light, angry, and want to bite someone. There are stories of people who were tied to a tree after being bitten by a rabid dog and slowly lost their minds from rabies

Back in the old days they would pierce their hearts when they believed they were vampires, along with the hunting kits. These could just be superstitions or real take it how you want.

They so still exist. I’m an avid believer in most supernatural things (ghosts, vampires, witches etc), and I definitely believe that they’re still real, but pretty harmless. They’re ancestors used to be more vicious (drinking blood, trying to murder people blah blah blah), but now they’ve adapted to society that’s why you don’t notice them
