How Fast Can We Run In Crocs?

Running a half marathon in 1:06:33 is no mean feat, but when we discovered that Benjamin Pachev of Utah did that time wearing Crocs, we had to give them a go ourselves! We weren't ready for that sort of distance but we did head to the track to compare our times over a 1-mile run between our preferred super-shoes and a pair of crocs that may or may not have fit well.

No word of a lie, I have outrun an actual crocodile whilst wearing crocs. I was fishing on casuarina beach in the Northern Territory of Australia and it came at me from the water. It wasn’t huge, but it was fast

This reminds me of Félix Carbajal running the marathon in the 1904 olympics wearing street shoes. He also showed up to the race wearing trousers and cut the legs to make them look more like shorts. Mid-race he stopped to eat some apples that turned out to be rotten, so he stopped for a nap to recover. He finished fourth.

I swore off Crocs for a long time until I found myself working for hours on my feet in a kitchen. And apparently they’re back in fashion? So maybe now my running shoes and my relaxing shoes can be the same “shoes”?

This is funny, only last week I was watching my 6 year old going at full power (she’s v fast), she was in crocs and my mind was blown. I’ve never worn them so have no idea how well the fit or stay on your feet.

It's super comfortable on road
Running shoes effective on road when new

A 4 minute mile, no. A sub 5 minute mile, sure. One beautiful part of track and field is telling people you have a mile pr of 4 . . . (could be 55) and people will turn around and say 'oh can run a mile in 4 minutes'. Yeah, I'm a 4 minute miler and a 2 hour marathoner. 😬

I ran a 1 hour 57 minute half marathon once in proper running shoes!! I could probably do 21km in 1:06 in cycling
