How to: Check track rod and inner/outer tie rod ends for wear

How to: Check a track rod for wear and investigate if the inner or outer tie rods need replacing.

The vehicle featured is a Ford Mondeo Mk3 (2002) but this process is generic.

You will need:
* Jack & axle stands and tools to remove wheel nuts
If removing track rod from knuckle:
* Socket and spanner to suit stud nut (15 mm shown)
* Hex key to suit stud (depending on design)
* Breaker bar
* Ratchet handle (convenient)
* Hammer
* Torque wrench (important for tightening the stud nut on the ball joint)
* Thread locker if re-using old stud nut.
