This Steve's Garage video I quickly cover how to diagnose a worn outer tie rod end. The car in the video is a 2000 Volvo V70 XC, but most cars will have a similar setup and exhibit similar symptoms when an outer tie rod is bad.

If you hear a clunking when turning your wheel, chances are your outer tie rod is worn! Outer tie rods connect your steering rack to your spindles and allow you to steer your car, so they should be taken care of ASAP. When you hear that noise, you should check for play and replace your tie rods sooner than later as it's a huge safety hazard to let outer tie rods go unchecked.

Please comment with any questions, thanks for watching!
