Well thought out. I suggest a set of wool socks, thermal underwear, maybe a sweat shirt as well. We all have room to improve for sure.

Hey man, first off sweet bag. Just some friendly advice. I'm in the Marine Corps Reserve in a cold weather infantry unit, so I'm used to sleeping in very cold weather. The unfortunate thing about having to bug out in this part of the world during the winter is that it is extremely unforgiving. You'd have a very rough time with the wool blanket you have there. You may want to look into a more elaborate sleep system, and be sure to keep your back off of the ground when you rack out, be it with a roll-able sleeping pad, or even just some leaves and brush. When you're talking about the temperatures we deal with up in the north, you need to be very well equipped. I see many bug out bags these days and it makes me worry, because I don't think people truly appreciate how cold it can get at night. I will say that if you ever get the cash, to look into the military sleep system that we utilize. It's a three part system consisting of a gortex bivvy, warm weather sleeping bag, and a black cold weather one, which all combine together for cold climates and make for a pretty toasty nights sleep. I am fortunate in that I get to take my gear home with me, so it's all always packed up and ready to go.

You are correct about the fire idea. I live at 10, 000 feet in the Colorado Rockies. sometimes .-30 or even lower. there is no way to pack enough gear to stay warm. you either have to have a fire or find indoor shelter. the idea of camping long term is insane with so many homes, cabins, garages, huts you could occupy, invited or not.
good video. You understand the cold weather problem well.

This video along with the weather forecast reminded me I need to switch over my bag from the summer set up.  I won't change much except add a zip lock of thin 3 inch dried twigs, more food, hand warmers, heavier cloths, and a heavier sleeping bag.

Good bag, I like everything, but as stated maybe instead of a blanket use a good sleeping bag; also hand warmers are cheep and make a sleeping bag in the cold a warm nights sleep.

Try out your bag locally, preferably near your home. I think you will want a better sleep system. I am in Utah, and the wool blanket will not cut it here. I have dug snow holes and slept overnight in the "igloos". Main think is to test your system in the real world, it may work for you. Good job building that baby.

Love how he can't help but to mention the brand and model of every thing he has in his pack.

Great video though, very complete set up.

Nice bag dude. I'm also thinking about switching to wool blanket setup for winter. I live in Sweden and winter can be cold and winter sleeping bags are just either so expensive or just so bulky. All the best, Rob

Even w a fire, the wool blanket isn't enough.  Period.

Looks like a good kit. I would say maybe add some zip ties and maybe a altoids size container of kindeling.

Look into the MSS, you would survive in ND in one of those no problem. I see them on the net for $99 for the whole system often. I have slept overnight in the open while stationed in Iceland. Secret is getting out of the wind. It will add bulk to your bag though. You could dump 3 of the three in the summer.

I like the mineral oil idea. Not a lot of people doing that.

Good kit but you should add some hand warmers and a head lamp

I would recommend replacing your Gerber saw with a Bacho Laplander saw. You got some coldass weather and will need a better saw.

Check out Berkeys filtrated water bottle. It'll be a good water source to have.

Here's a question. How much is this bug out bag worth with all this set of contents?

Wool and fur are Kings when it comes to winter clothing survival. Your also missing a warm hat and WINTER gloves bro. A wool blanket is good for every season except winter so you may wanna think about a sleeping bag as an alternative. The rest of your kit is solid
