Orania — The Afrikaner Project for Freedom

The NYYRC held an exclusive Wine Wednesday featuring a delegation from Orania, South Africa! The Executive Head of the Orania Movement Joost Strydom and Dr. Ernst Roets, spoke and other senior leaders of Orania, a remarkable, self-sustaining Afrikaner cultural community in South Africa, were present.

Orania stands as a bulwark against the chaos, economic deprivation, and instability that each day drive South Africa closer to failed state status. South Africa’s decay is not a natural evolution; it is the result of a concerted effort of race-centric discriminatory laws that have robbed citizens of the public services and successful private enterprise that their nation had when it held the first general election under its current constitution in 1994.

The Afrikaner community has been subject to relentless attack by the African National Congress and other leftist political parties, which make no secret of their communist allegiances. Most recently, the ANC government implemented a law providing for “nil compensation” for seized property. They make no secret of their goals; they want to “kill the boer” and seize his farm. And kill the boer they do, with glee.

The Orania Movement stands in stark opposition to the destruction the ANC and its allies seek to inflict on the Afrikaner community. It seeks self-determination, and its members have proven their capacity to achieve success. They have been vilified in the press as a result.

We look forward to welcoming Joost Strydom, the Executive Head of the Orania Movement, and other members of his leadership team for their first public engagement in North America. The Orania team will be joined by Dr. Ernst Roets, who recently sat down with Tucker Carlson for an insightful interview.

As Tucker noted, South Africa is “what happens when you take DEI seriously.” It’s a sobering tale.

To our American brothers, born of a Revolution that declared all men are created equal, we reach out not in bitterness, but in brotherhood. For just as your forefathers stood against tyranny, taxation without representation, and the denial of identity, so too do we find ourselves at a crossroads.

We are a people—Afrikaners—who have tilled the soil, raised families, built cities, and contributed in blood and sweat to the land we love. Yet for decades, we have suffered under racial laws dressed in the language of justice but borne of envy and vengeance. The ANC has built a new apartheid—only with the colours reversed. Opportunity denied. Voice silenced. Identity mocked.

This is not a cry for superiority, but for survival. Not for dominance, but dignity. Like your Founding Fathers, we ask only for the freedom to live according to our conscience, to speak our language, raise our children with pride, and preserve the values handed down to us.

If not Orania, then where? And if not now, when?

We extend a humble plea: that the land of the free might open its arms to those who still believe in faith, family, hard work, and liberty. We ask not for handouts, but for the right to live as brothers among brothers—honest craftsmen, engineers, farmers, thinkers—men and women who want to contribute to a nation that still holds high the torch of freedom.

To be Afrikaner is not to seek isolation, but to seek a space where our spirit may not be legislated into silence. Just as you once declared independence from the empire, so too do we seek a place—on this soil or yours—where the soul of a people can breathe free.

Most of us are fully bilingual. We grew up with American TV shows, harbouring Western values.
Even if we have our own cultural identity, it is but an atom's width of American identity. We will blend in almost immediately. What we so desperately crave is a country we can stand with and be proud of. In less than a heartbeat, Afrikaners will become Americaners = Americans.

Baie goeie toespraak Ernst Roets. I think what stood out to me was how you said that some Afrikaners would like to leave and some Afrikaners would like to stay. That was important for everyone to know. Some are just tired of the struggle here in South Africa. We just want to live a normal life where we are safe and can work towards a better future. As a young Afrikaner, we are proud of Dr Ernst Roets and grateful towards president Trump
