As an English speaker I spent a most memorable weekend in Orania...it was a revelation and a perfect example that every community should emulate for longterm success.

I understand there's a lot of nuance to the exclusivity of Orania, and one has to be careful how this exclusivity is framed. However, I also do not think it would be morally wrong or racist to have a "white" only community, for the same reasons Joost laid out for why there's nothing wrong with having an exclusively Afrikaner, Christian community. In terms of demographics, the end result is the same in the context of South Africa. Having said that, it's not good enough for your goal to simply be "whites only", as there is nothing but race to unify you which will lead to internal conflicts. This I now understand thanks to this conversation.

My perspective is also coloured by the fact that I live in Europe as an expat since I was very young. The people and homelands from which our ancestors left for South Africa are under threat. We are becoming a minority in our own homelands and things are getting very violent and dangerous in some parts, and beyond that there's an anti-white agenda being pushed on us. It's not on the level of singing "kill the Boer", but in a few decades we might be approaching that. The only non-violent solution I can see for Europe is to make Italian-only, Irish-only, English-only etc. communities following the model of Orania. But I now also understand that these communities will need more to bind them than just being "white/European", and more than just nationality, that it needs faith and a love for one's people, traditions and heritage.

I hope one day circumstances will allow me to at least visit Orania, and I hope this mindset and movement grows not just for Afrikaners and Europeans but all peoples.
