I was told, when the engine stops in that situation, one of the pistons is at Top Dead Center, with compressed fuel. When it gets the signal to restart, it sends voltage to that cylinder, with starts the engine, without using the starter. Is there any information on that?

I hate that start stop so I am in the habit now of turning it off when I start my Rav4. BTW using eco mode instead of normal mode when driving, especially on the highway, saves quite bit of gas. It just doesn't give the acceleration from stop to 60 that you get in normal or sport mode driving.

Do you know if it can be coded off via a Carly or similar device?

It does save a ton of gas though. The best solution is to get a hybrid.😂 Seriously, we love our Highlander Hybrid AWD. The last two tanks of gas were 40.1 and 40.5 MPG. Which is crazy good given the 35/35/35 rating. These include a bunch of highway miles. We’re impressed! Great video once again, doesn’t apply to me but I can pass the tip along to my non-hybrid driving friends.

So much for your 0 to 60 time
Just use the button.

How do us Rav4 Hybrids do this? I took it to a dealership and they had no clue and said I was missing that A button. I Googled and apparently we don't get that button in Hybrids. But I need a way to figure out how to keep my hybrid idled all night long. I sometimes need to car camp and I'm in the south so these 99 degrees at 80% humidity I just can't do. Also, how do I lock my car and keep the car running while I step away?

Apparently, it's not applicable to hybrids because their engines start/stop all the time. I agree, this is an annoying "feature". Funny that 40 years ago in a far-far-away land, there was a system that automatically shut fuel delivery when the vehicle was moving and gas pedal released thus providing extra engine braking power and saving gas. Gas supply would automatically restore and engine start when RPM dropped below 1000. Having constant stop/start using a regular starter is not smart - unlike hybrids that don't have a stater per se, a normal starter would not last long.

I know this "feature" isn't your fault Steve, but quite frankly it sucks. (C'mon Toyota!) All this starting and stopping is going to do is increase the wear and tear on starters and engines. Not to mention that it uses more gas to re-start the engine over and over again. For those of us who do not live in major metropolitan areas, and sit in traffic for hours on highways, this is a solution looking for a problem. Thank you Globalist minders for doing all the thinking for the little people. We curse your name every time we have to deactivate this STUPID "feature".

Glad I bought my '23 RAV4 Adventure model WITHOUT this "feature". I curse it every time I drive my wife's '21 RAV4 XLE.

THis feature is stupid, burns out your starter nice and fast and other stuff, I just got to get used to hitting the button every time I get in, , what a waste of money this feature is

Number one way, is to buy a car without it

This is an accident waiting to happen. You make an emergency stop and have to take off quickly to avoid an 18 wheeler bearing down on you, and you are praying your car will start. The starters and batteries are a LOT more expensive to replace. Save $ 100 a year on gas and pay 15 times that to replace the starter.
When a battery fails on an EV or regular non idle stop vehicle in your driveway or at work, a minor headache. When it fails in rush hour traffic, and no way to get to the breakdown lane, with your kids in the back seat....
