Retired automotive engineer here. Yes, auto manufacturers DO put in features that the MAJORITY of buyers HATE. NONE of these are mandated by the government. Don't believe a car salesman, they are TRAINED to LIE. 1) Forced Lighting a.k.a. Daytime Running Lights that cannot be turned off. There are MANY situations where you want to turn off all vehicle lights. There are over 400 Movie Drive-Ins in America today, or you might be waiting outside for someone at night and don't want to shine your lights in someone's windows. About 80 Million TONS of greenhouse gas are pumped into the atmosphere annually so people can drive around with lights on while the sun is shining brightly, (an exception is Toyota, 17% of their customers buy them because the lights can always be turned off.) On two occasions, General Motors petitioned the government to make daytime running lights mandatory. On both occasions, the U.S. Department Of Transportation denied the request citing there was NO evidence that driving around with your lights on in the daytime improved safety. 2) Engine Stop Start technology, this technology was developed for the SOLE purpose of improving the EPA, MPG number. In the real world it does nothing to save fuel, but it DOES wear out your engine faster. Nothing is harder on a car engine than when you start it. General Motors and some other cars, do not have the ability to turn this "feature" off. Overrides ARE available on the Internet to eliminate this dangerous feature. 3) Dangerous Navigation Systems that do not allow the PASSENGER to input an address while the vehicle is moving. Because of this common and dangerous feature, people are forced to do additional driving and maneuvering to get the car in Park and then back onto the road. Others, will use their iPhones to enter an address. The car computer knows if there is someone in the passenger seat. If there is a passenger in the a car, the navigation system should fully function. Most people hate “Nanny Cars”. There are hacks and modifications to overcome these defects. In all three of my vehicles, these evil features have been permanently eliminated.

There might be a connector on the positive battery terminal that feeds the auto start stop. Just disconnect it and it’s done. Kudos to the guy on YouTube that did a video on it. He had a fusion.

Every time this happens you got to think that the oil drains all back into the oil pan - especially after 15-20 seconds or longer -This issue is magnified with the thin weight oils that most manufacturers use now. . There's no way getting around the fact that years and years of city driving will put un-necessary wear on the engine parts as a result.

This function is potentially dangerous. If someone comes up behind you fast or you need to make an emergency quick start for some reason you have a delay which could cost you your car or even your life. Bad idea. That said, the more likely issue is the constant wear and tear on the engine and its components and the need for more maintenance over time.

Nice. That's the easiest way to disable it permanently instead of using few tools to disconnect wires. I'll try this for the next vehicle I get.

The starters on vehicles are electric yes but you must have a mechanical connection to the crankshaft to actually initiate the rotation of the components in the engine itself. The starter has a small gear that's driven by an electric motor. When you initiate the start sequence, the fuel pump turns on and primes the system, ignition coils are energized, the starter receives power and pushes the small gear forward to engage with either your flywheel or flex plate (manual or automatic transmission) then begins rotating the entire rotating assembly of the engine ( crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshaft(s) etc). The engine is rotating, the fuel starts flowing into the combustion chamber, spark is initiated and the engine co.es to life. Diesels are relatively similar minus the spark seeing as they work off of combustion solely on compression and heat.

Point is yes the starter is electrically driven but always mechanically engaging.

Unplug the Module under the steering wheel. It will only deactivate auto start/ stop and your trailer brakes. It’s free, no tools needed and well that’s it. No time wasted shopping or buying online!! Just press down on the small plug located by your left shin under the steering wheel and pull it out. I did mine about 2 years ago and it has never caused me any trouble nor caused any other electrical Issues other than my trailer brake system not working . For me, it’s a win!!!

Everybody hates this feature...I don't know anyone who likes it.

I don't know about Fords but on the GM trucks, the autostop feature is disabled anytime the A/C is on and the temp is set below current temp. A/C system needs the engine to operate so the feature is disabled. Good for summer but it doesn't work that way with the heater.

The 2017 Cadillac xt5 doesn’t even give you an option button to shut the auto stop down. Don’t know what your ECM auto stop cost but Amazon got one for $$13 you just plug into the harness by the fan that works great and keeps your ecm open.

All you have to do is disconnect the plug on the ground post of the battery and it only takes 2 seconds and no tools. First thing I do in every rental car I get into.
On another note, you are bound to be frustrated with the lane change features, the assisted cruise control, push button start, and dial gear selector. I will absolutely refuse to spend my money on anything with these features. The US manufacturers are idiots if they don't see the marketability of the "DELETE" option.

It's such a fantastic feeling turning left in a major intersection and your engine turns off😂

Total waste. Simply pull 3rd black plug of three under steering wheel column. Permanently disabled. If you want to tow plug it back in. Its that simple. F150

No.... I'm not plugging any chinese crap into my odb port.... I've had cheap readers plug in any screw crap up. Just plug in an extra brake light into your hitch and it automatically kills the start stop.

Nice, I guess if you were New York or LA I could see the issues you might sit at a light for 2 or 3 cycles during heavy traffic, but this is going to wear out your vehicle way faster, since we know when most engine wear occurs. Long term you pollute more the more new vehicles you have to buy.

On many cars the AUTO-STOP CONTROL is conected to the battery with a relay, discontecting that will shut off the AUTO-STOP.

i read someplace that if you are pulling a trailer the auto stop start is disabled so i read some guy has made a plug in to your rear wiring harness where a trailer would be attached to and it simulates a trailer and the thing does not work

The starter is a mechanical piece and it does have to engage and disengage every time to start the engine. There’s no other way to do this. If I’m wrong about this, please explain to me how the engine starts without being physically turned or spun over by an outside source. I would love to know the answer .
