Thanks a lot. You explained it way better than the service representatives at my local BMW service center. Thumbs up.

Thanks for explaining what that means! I’m a new owner of an older model (2013) and that was driving me crazy! I thought something was wrong with the car!🤦🏾‍♀️

Thanks for the insight on the last user setting. Good to know that I don’t need to turn off the feature every time.

THIS FEATURE WEAR OUT THE BATTERY AND STARTER MUCH, MUCH FASTER AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I TOLD MY CUSTOMERS TO TURN IF OFF. NICE VIDEO.

When I was a student I had an old Mitsubishi that also came with this "feature". When I would stop at a traffic light or was stuck in traffic, the engine would "turn-off". Getting it started again involved a lot of swearing, praying, pushing and sometimes spannerworks. Now years later every time my BMW "feature' kicks in I get a panic attack. Thanks BMW. Also having it on by default when I start the car... that's really annoying and just ads to my driving displeasure. The fact that there's a button to disable this "feature" means that some people had the idea that not all BMW drivers would like this feature, but how the consensus was reached as to what percentage of drivers would like this on by default... I don't know. Don't force new technology down peoples throats. Trust is earned and easily destroyed. I don't trust my BMW anymore. It stalls and I panic, and then I remember that I didn't push the F%$#ing button, and then I hate BMW for 5 minutes. In a week I accumulate about 1 hour of hate towards BMW. After hating BMW for 52 hours every year, I won't be buying a BMW again in a hurry. This is my experience. I know who I am, what I like and what I don't like. Go watch Seth Godin's talk "it's broken" and you might start to understand where BMW went wrong. It's broken for me, it's not broken for everybody, but that's fine. Having aircon is a feature, you can switch it on. Having a radio is a feature, you can switch it on. Having auto start stop is a feature, you can turn it on.... no wait... it's always on, you have to manually turn it off. Again and again and again and again and again. Having something always on, makes it a FIXTURE not a feature.

Yeah, but why does it have a line through it when it's on? That should be when it's turned off. Do you think I can turn it off forever if I get Bimmercode? Or does it have to be a BMW dealer? Cheers

Not sure that if the battery charge is low that it will disable start/stop. I have a 2016 X4.. I had gone to dinner over the weekend and had the car valet parked. Unbeknownst to me, the valet guy turned my headlight switch in the on position and not the Auto On position, so this caused my battery to drain. By Monday, i went to work, went to lunch and the car started fine but on my drive back from lunch, going around a turn in the parking lot, the car shut off abruptly. I was unable to re-start and the panel completely went dead. My fob could not even unlock my hatch, nor lock/unlock the door. The only thing i could do was switch on my emergency flasher! Since the shifter is electronic, I was unable to put the car in neutral to push it to a parking space..fortunately this didn’t happen while in the middle of a busy street or freeway for that matter! Even the AAA tow truck coulbe not jump start the car, so they towed it to a dealer, who told me my batteries were completely dead. WTF?? Fortunately, my warranty covered the replacement! However, this start/stop is an AWFUL feature and can be very dangerous as it could put you in a very very bad predicament as I found out. Thanks for the tip on how keep this damn feature OFF.. the hell with fuel savings. I’ve had a 5 series for over 11 years and have had NO issues whatsoever other than normal wear and tear. There is no way anyone can convince me that the total fuel savings can be more than the cost of a set of BMW batteries (my X4 has two I believe), nor the cost of a worn starter!
