For anyone finding this, the plug has two fin-like parts beneath that keep it in place when connected; Those are what he is pulling back outward. (The nail clipper is perfect for this)

Micro usb is still around here and there, and I have long one that is useful. I had the exact issue and had it fixed. I'm glad to find a fix vs another throwaway, (adding to ongoing waste).

Also there is the dust buildup inside the charging hole of phone and prevents cable pushing in perfectly. With a needle can be scraped gently inside the slot, with care not to touch to hard the contact circuit inside there. With a torch for light to help and scooping dust/filth buildup usually fixes this problems.

Thank you for the tip. I have a USB Micro B which had come loose, constantly loosing connection without coming out completely. I didn't use the nail clippers, just got a sharp needle to prise up the distal end of the clips of which there are two. I found I needed to get exactly straight in front to have the needle catch the clip, otherwise it would easily slip in along side & not effect the clip. Only needed to rais them perhaps half the thickness of the needle with no risk of bending excessively, & that was adequate. Cheers.

Literally the worst connector in the historu of electronics. I shouldn't be posting this in 2024 but I bought a wireless keyboard off Amazon that unfortunately has this for it's charging port. From day 1 it's been absolute ass. Thanks for the solution.
