Pesticides are chemical substances used to kill pests that might damage the crops and fruits. It is used in abundance by farmers, especially in remote areas. The developments in the agricultural sector have evidently shown an increase in the use of pesticides during the cultivation of crops.

There are numerous health hazards linked to the use of pesticides. Pesticides can have grave effects on the health of anybody consuming fruits or vegetables highly contaminated with pesticides.

Several reports suggest that high levels of pesticides in food can lead to the development of diseases such as cancer, kidney and lung ailments. Children have developing organs, prone to catching infections and diseases. Any exposure to these high chemical residues can lead to childhood cancers, mental health problems such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Please excuse the video quality color as I’m shooting videos in hotel rooms with poor lighting as I’m traveling through Asia. 😊

Nutshell: 1 tsp baking soda per 2 cups water. Let your fruit soak for 15-20 mins.

When I buy blueberries and/or strawberries, I soak them in baking soda for about 10 minutes immediately after buying them, then rinse them in a colander and spread them on a kitchen towel to dry, turning them a few times to be sure the berries are dry before returning them to their containers. This way, I know they've been washed and can be eaten without worrying about being slowly poisoned in the process. I know anything I grow at home is pesticide free, although I might have to eat around a worm or two. Thank you, Dr. Mandell for confirming the best method for cleaning fruit, though. I trust any advice you have to give ... always.

Fruit tastes much better after washing with baking soda. You can still wash berries with baking soda. Even soaking blueberries for a while works well but it is best to wash them just before eating, not storing as you can apples, pears, etc. Just do not leave raspberries or blackberries soaking as you would others since they will start to fall apart. Make sure to rinse all the baking soda off as this is attached to the poison so you do not want to eat anything with the baking soda taste. Great cleaning agent as well.

For berries, I do a quick soak of apple cider vinegar and water, then a good rinse. They hold up really well and there's no weird added taste.

This info is very good, whether you buy organic or not. But I go a step further by mixing baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Immediately there's a reaction in the water, so I find I don't have to let the foods soak too long, especially for apples.

Great info ofcourse.
Its also good to know the dirty dozen in order to focus more on what is dirtier.
Some fruits and veggies are actually safe organic or not and they dont use herbicides or pesticides on them. So know what does and doesnt to save time etc.,
Remember too there are some produce that it doesnt matter what you do, they are permeable to chemicals and absorb them into their pulp and fiber. Strawberries are super bad as are blueberries and many others.
