nvidia was trying to shift their whole stack. pass off higher numbered cards with lower model performance at higher tiered price. This was supposed to be where the 4060ti shouldve landed

nvidia might not have killed pc gaming but it has put it in a 10 year coma

12:24 Gamers Nexus did a teardown and compared the PCB with 4070 cards from other manufacturers. It's a dingy little thing. The Nvidia PCB was actually even missing some components found in the Inno3D one, for example. So, yeah, it's cheaply made, typical of a 60-class or 50-class. But they're charging 80-class money for it. Nvidia can eat a dick. This generation is a major skip.

As soon as the 4080 12gb was cancelled that's when I figured they were going to knock everything back. The 4070 should have been 4060 or ti and the 4070 ti should have been the base 4070

This thing should have a base price or 450, and that's being generous. I still remember the GTX 970 starting at around 329, and it was not too far from the performance of the 980.

9:29 I strongly disagree. If you look at the specs, the 4080 (16 GB) is what the 4070 should have been, not that 4080 "12 GB" crap they were trying to pull. Because all 70-class cards sold in the last DECADE, since the GTX 670, had a 256-bit memory bus. Not 192-bit. Nvidia done fucked up. Once they released the "Ti" version, it was all down the drain. They gimped it too much.
The current "4070" is a 60-class card in disguise, sold under a 70-class label, for 80-class money. $600 is what the 80-class used to cost 3 generations ago (GTX 1080).

Almost got my last PC Build customer into this one but still felt it was too much money at $600 where we are. Instead, for $390 he went with a 6750XT. Would have went 3070 but around here those are over $500 still. He has been extremely happy with the 6750XT on his new 1440p monitor. All this new gen needs to come down more. Really hoping the 7800XT comes in under $600 and out-performs the 4070. We need some damn value again!

This 4070 should have been named 4060 Ti or even 4060. But if they named it that, they might have not been able to priced it at $599.

They tried to launch a 4080 12GB because if it was named what it probably was (4070 class card), people would be upset with the high price that Nvidia was charging. They kind of screwed over their card naming in an attempt to reset price expectations higher and charge more. It's probably why their line up so screwed up.

Nvidia could take their GPUs and shove it where the sun don't shine.

The last time I got fooled by Nvidia was building a budget PC a few years back and opoted for a 1660 Super. Fool me one Nividia... The 4070 is a 4060/4060 TI all day long.

twenty minutes to tell you that its really an expensive 4060.

All 40 Series cards so far cost around 2x what they are worth. The last three Generations spark no joy for me. Will stay with team red until they make a 1080 ti equivalent again.

This would have been easier to digest if the 3080, a card that is consistently referenced, was actually in the charts.... Kind of hard to connect the dots with the 6900 XT in there instead.

I’m very glad this happening and will continue to happen as long as ppl selfishly proclaim. "It’s my money don’t tell me how to spend it"

nVidia seems intent to make price to performance fairly flat across their lineup. So we'll get 1080p gaming at $400. This is going to destroy PC gaming over time. Budget builds will only catch up to console performance late in the console's life. So why buy a PC for gaming if you're on a budget?

15:52 "Selling really well"? Press X to doubt. 🤭
It's a 60-class card, that they're trying to sell under a 70-class label, for 80-class money. 💩

zdspider

From what I've seen from other reviews and from past results, the 4070 is really a 4060, 4070ti is the 4070. Usually 60 class cards met or beat last gens 80 class.

Least bad, does not mean good >.> still avoid this card. It will force Nvidia to lower prices further which will help lead to a card that might actually be good.

I myself just got an MSI 4070 Gaming X Trio. I am enjoying it though. MSI did a pretty good job on this one, even though it's huge in size. It has a 215 watt TDP, so about 15 extra watts of headroom. And with the giant cooler on such a tiny board, and it uses a passthrough cooler, the cooling is amazing on this thing. When I'm just watching YT videos and doing regular desktop apps, the temps pretty much sit around 30 degrees C, even with zero fan RPMs. I was using a 3060 Ti with GDDR6X, so this was a decent upgrade for my Ryzen 7600X based system.

Still think the 4090 is the most reasonable card in a weird way.
1) smallest percentage price increase
2) now it’s not 8-10% faster at 2x the price of the 80 class, it’s 30% faster at 30% more money.

It’s still not a good value but relative to the Titan cards it “replaced” (sort of- thanks for gimping the 90 series more than the Titan nvidia) but compared to the 3090 it feels much more reasonable given the family of cards they were selling.

For me, I would have been interested in the card if it had 14GB or 16GB VRAM for $500-550. My 3070 is hanging in there and because they gimped the 4070, now I'm going to sit it out. No difference in CUDA cores but the higher clock speeds are nice. Great video! I can hear the "meh" in your voice. Lol.
